Does anyone have any experience or opinion on the traditional looking camp/belt axes from Track of the Wolf. I like the looks but looks don't mean anything if they don't hold up to real worl use.

The curvy one looks a bit strange but the other looks fine. The thing is, Cold steel has a proven line, for less.

Regards

Robin

I actually have several Cold Steel. I liked these at TOTW because they look traditional, are mounted more like a hatchet instead of a tomahawk, and look a little more heavy duty with a poll. I've been having trouble with my Cold Steel with actual usage with loose heads no matter what I do.

I have to agree with you on the loose head thing, it annoys the hell out of me. I honestly believe that it IS the eye to haft shape that cause the head to come loose. I have a couple of hand made hawks with closer to round eyes that never come loose.

Best regards

I think the eye has something to do with it to. I mentioned in another thread that I have a hawk head from Great River Forge and although I'm still fitting the handle, when you have it on a handle you have to work it back and forth to get it off. When I finally get the handle complete, I can't really see it coming off. The only thing that kept my Norse Hawk head from coming loose after a couple of chops after trying everything was JB Weld.

Yup, the norse hawk is thw worst for coming loose. I rework all the eyes and hafts for a perfect fit but the norsehawk still comes loose if you chop with it. The trail hawk and the new frontier seem to be the best for staying on. Good thing I have lots of hatchets and axes for chopping ;-))

Best regards

Robin

These camp axes/hawks look like the same thing as the Hawksmith series at Crazy Crow. Maybe if no one chimes in on experience with these, I'll have to be the guine pig.

I really love the Mohawk belt axe. I think the size is perfect for carry, I wouldn't mind having that one. I also like the forged small trekking axes, the forged American square head looks very useful. The one I have is no longer listed, it a polled bag axe such similar to these except for a narrow square hammer head on the opposite end.
