Camp Knife - 3V of O1?

My O1 Camp has served me well and held a great edge. I appreciate the properties of 3V and I'm sure the 3V Camp Knives perform excellently. I prefer the convex and individual grind of the handmade knives but that is just my taste. I have recently picked up a Camp in A2 with a beautiful grind but haven't had chance to get it dirty yet.

You know, 01 is a great steel for sure and I really like the way each blade that comes out of Andy's shop has it's own character. For me & my usage, I would take 01 over A2 any day, why? Because I chip the hell out of the stuff, doesn't matter who makes it. Most serious woodsmen have read & enjoyed books by Kephart & Nessmuck, yes? Well there knives are legendary and that's a fact but let's not forget that the steel that they were made from is not anywhere nearly as good as 01 is & they got along just fine. I have nothing bad to say about 01 at all, It's very good steel in it's own right. However, I do enjoy the toughness & edge holding of 3v.

My .02 For a user, I would personally rather have 3V for a camp knife due to edge holding. This is pretty much in my opinion FF's designated "batoner". With that being said, for the durability aspect I'd take the 3V

I like 3V; it's a great steel. But I have a real affinity for O1 and have beaten on it with a will. O1 is still one of my favorites.

I think we are comparing relatively small margins of performance here. For field use and field sharpening, I think O1 is easier to use. No question 3V seems to perform better, but O1 still has a place in my camp given it's ease of use and toughness. As does 1095, A2, 5160, S30V, D2, and 154CM. I still carry a Buck 110 in 420HC at times. I used to sweat over what steel a knife is made of, but nowadays, give me a nice knife made from an old saw blade with a good heat treat, and I'm as happy as can be.

I prefer the convex and individual grind of the handmade knives but that is just my taste...

I also prefer the convex grind on a camp knife. When Andy makes a convex 3V Camp Knife, I hope to snag one when I spot a handle combo I like.
