Hey Guys I am looking for a new camp, hiking, all round outdoors knife 5" blade drop point style.
I was looking at the Becker 2 and the Ontario Afghan. Ok here is the thing I really want a Ratmandu but is the extra 65.00 worth it or should I Becker up and not be to sad if I loose it or wreck it. Anyone have both knives to give me a comparison. looking for some facts before I drop the coin this week.

I also want a Ratmandu but it is going to run you more then 65 as it will need a sheath. Pick up a BK10. The swamp rat is cool but I doubt it will do anything the 10 wouldn't do.

You would have to work awfully hard to "wreck" a BK2. Buy a BK 2, then take the extra 65 bucks and buy a BK 10 as well.

BK10 is easy to mod to a drop from the clip.
it's subtle, but makes a visual difference.

Yeah, I handled Snake Doc's dereamped 10 at Beckerwest.
Its on my to do list for sure.

And hey jaycooks1, you cant wreck a train wrecker! :D
Buy the 2 and an 11/14 as well. Or just buy the 2 and get some nice Kydex or leather for it.
I dont think anyone here will try to talk you out of getting a RMD, they're great knives.
But there's just tremendous value in the Becker line up.

Hmmm, why not look at the 16 also? Its slightly under the size you described, but I promise you, its a very capable bushcraft blade. And the 7 might be a good option tooooo? Its just a little bigger, but its insanely useful with everything from fine tasks, to heavy wood processing jobs.

In my experience though, most people wind up going back to the slightly smaller sized blades like the tweeners, moras, etc.... With practice and dirt time, I've learned that theyre all I really need. Just my opinion, fwiw?

You really can't go wrong with any of the ones you mentioned. BK2 is the least expensive I believe. Dooooo Eeeeeett!

MMMM strong the Dark Side is Luke, I just called my local GS to get me a price on the BK10 Crewman. Will order one this week, is this the start to a new addiction, I just got over black rifle fever now is it Black Knife Fever LOL

I have both the RMD and BK2. If you told me I could only use one, it would be the RMD every single time. Awesome knife. It's one of the very few I'll never get rid of.

I also have a BK16 and a BK9. If you told me I could only take one, it would hands down be the RM.... crap, BK.....no....dammit! The 9 will out chop the ratmandu. The 16 is everything that's good about the 2 minus everything that's bad about the 2. For a camp knife, I'd pick the 9. For a hiking trip? RMD. Or BK16. Probably wear the RMD with the BK16 strapped to the pack.

I'm sure that cleared everything up for you.

you came here asking which one to buy...before this crew is done, you will have the whole lineup :D get the 2...and the 10...and the 9...and...

Got the BK2, and 10 (and others). Also have the Ratmandu, Howling Rat and SwampRat. IMHO, the Rats are very good blades. But you also have to figure in the cost of a sheath unless you want a duct tape sheath. And, the up front cost of the Rats is higher. The difference between SR101 and 1095 CroVan........well you will get a lot of opinions on that one. I will just say that I am very satisfied with my Beckers and Rats. It's darn hard to make a decision. If you are like me, you will probably end up with all of them!
All the best

I like the 2--its a great first Becker, but it seems the more skilled I get with a knife (which still isnt very skilled), the more I want a knife more designed for the task at hand. With that said, I find the 14,16,9 combo to cover absolutely anything you can throw at it---Start with the 16 and the 9 and get the 14 when you can----
