Camp Knife for my Wife Recommendations Please

My question >> this camp knife..... just for camp or is she likely to carry it hiking? If it was my wife, I would get her precisely what she wants.

20% for hiking/trail use. That said, my wife would rather me present her with options and then let her pick between them. This annoys the shit out of me when we’re talking about what to have for dinner, not so much with knives. It just means I get to play with everything.

I realize emotions are high on Benchmade right now, but I’ll spend my money elsewhere until it is completely evident that they do not support anti 2A politicians.

Thanks for the input though!
I certainly hope that isn't true. It would be self defeating in two ways. They would initially lose sales from their base buyers and they would also risk giving up their right to sell weapons.

Inside the parameters the first that comes to mind would be another vote for the BK16 ... for the cost it's a real value ... and hard to find anything that matches it in that price range ...

if you decide to step up a bit LT Wright has several great knives that are some of my personal favorites.

Cold steel Pro lite is a good knife very good quality and is cheap on Amazon If you don’t think you’re a good quality just watch Cold steel videos also the sog flash1 is A good knife but is kind of small but is a good quality night then also there buck 110 that is the original camping knife really

I would rather spend more money and please her rather than going cheap because it makes practical sense (Example; BK-16). The reason is quite simple really, I buy a lot of knives that please me, but I seldom use. It would be wonderful to actually buy one that she uses and loves. I'm glad that every other post wasn't Mora Mora.

The F1 is a great choice by the way. My F1 is one of the fancy ones with a Fallkniven micarta handle and it ran $300 years ago.... At the time, it was one of my most expensive knives. Times have changed in that regard, but it is still up there. I just seldom buy really expensive knives and that was an impulse buy.

I respect the hell out of this opinion.

Right now, we’re early in our marrriage and looking hard at our future. Money isn’t tight but isn’t loose either. $120 is a reasonable price range for us now. Try to understand, I don’t have an ideal custom knife yet. And she would rather me buy for myself than for her in the custom realm as I actually know what I want. Just not there yet.

The F1 May be too much right now for a six weekend a year knife, but damn do I like it.

What does she think of your bk9

What does she think of your bk9

She thinks it’s a Katana. She gets it when I’m batoning wood or cutting brush but she doesn’t want anything that large. That said, she’s handled multiple 3” knives and wants something bigger.

Does she like the grip shape of the bk9.
Price wise and all the bk16 or one of the bk offering may be where its at. The bk16 handles nice. The sheath is great for woods carry. A kydex carries better. Ffg with 4 inch blade. Its a great all around camp knife.

Go scour the exchange for a SYKCO 411. You’re welcome, and I’m sorry.

Looked one up and I’m about to show my ignorance and compare it to a Buck. School me please.

Buck makes some fine knives. I’ve always loved them and own more than a few.

However, that SYKCO 411 is something you don’t see everyday. They are made by one of the best knife companies in the business IMO.

First off, they have a lifetime warranty (you break it, they replace it. Forever). They call the blade steel SR101. It’s basically 52100 ball bearing steel with a very good proprietary heat treatment.

The handle is made from a material called respirine C. It’s not spongy like rubber or kraton, but it has some give to it. It’s very comfortable on the hands.

The bottom line is, I think it would be an excellent camp knife for a lady who says 3” isn’t enough (shouldn’t they all say that?;)), and it’s probably top tier for your budget.

They’re not huge, but they’re not tiny. They are made well from top quality materials. They are certainly more unique than many knives out there, and that may make it special to your wife.

The reason I said “I’m sorry” is because once you have held a Busse or kin (Scrapyard and Swamp Rat), you will crave more.

You’ll thank me. And curse the day you read these words.

Even if I buy another BK right now (budget/time/availability) I like you sir and I dig how you think. I think we are gonna be friends.

The TOPS Idaho Field knife is close to your $$$ range. Though I don't personally own any now, the TOPS I've had before were definitely stout as all heck.
Kinda wish I wouldn't have sold 'em.

Title says it all.

I've used a Ka-Bar Becker BK 9 for years as a camp knife. I doubt I'll change as I can run any number of my Spyderco Folders for small tasks, and the Becker is beat up but a damn fine functional piece of steel for camp work.

My wife and I haven't been on a camping trip since our Honeymoon in October of 2016. Her Birthday is at the end of February and while I've ordered her a nice new pair of Justin boots for her main gift, I'm still a little torn on the knife. And we go camping to celebrate her birth on this planet on the 1st.

I've thought about just ordering her a 5" version of my Becker on Amazon but I thought I'd open the question to you all.

What would you buy for your wife as a long term camp knife investment with a budget of $120 or less? This will be a lifetime camp knife or until we break it. Which we might, we're not tiny people. :D
Hi SherlockT, It depends on your wife and her choice, for example soft and slim wives love to have a pocket knife where as we take a strong and muscular lady who will love have a big knife or a kukri :D:D:D
Perkinknives can solve your problem coz I used to buy from them for me and my husband.

How does she mainly use a blade? Probably something that matches her main cutting tasks.

For $120, or maybe a little more, you could get a nice custom that might be more meaningful than off the shelf for the Mrs. There's a couple nice ones under $100 there right now...

Then add a Mora as beater:D.
