I've been looking for a unique and rugged steel for a custom camp knife. I've researched steels extensively over the years and know a steel is only as good as the heat treat, because of this I was wondering what your opinions would be on "OSV1(Metal Ravne)" as a steel choice. I'm not sure if many makers would know the heat treat protocols to make the most of it.

Filling out your profile will help us give better answers. We need to know where you are, etc.

From your steel description (Metal Ravne), I assume you are in Europe. We would need a better steel name or description to give a good answer. What is the ASTM, AISI, SAE, ISO, etc. designation .

The nickel does look like a mistake; the datasheet calls it a Cr-Mo-V-W-Co steel with no mention of nickel, but then shows the nickel addition in the table but with no tungsten: http://www.oyalmetal.com/tablolar/135-osv1.html

Anyway the steel looks like a T15 variant. High wear resistance and hardness, low toughness.

Not good for a rugged knife, for sure. Want rugged and full of Nickel? Go K600, from Bohler.
