I open the tv this morning and find something interesting on OLN, Camp N Out... I imagine I could watch a bit of this pick up a few tricks and head on into the woods..

I only catched a bit of this "cooking while camping segment with Big gay Al". A guy that looked like it was the first time setting foot in the woods + he didn't seem very knowledgeable wearing a Tropical/hawaiin shirt, dress pants and fancy shoes..accompanied by a nice set of long wet curly hair with gel?

At this point, the emotions I was feeling(hate, frustration, fury) were taking over.. had to even take my insulin as I felt my blood pressure go through the roof.

There he was in thick bush cooking by the fire with a large grill he probably unloaded from a truck. cooking big ass steaks, asparagus with shrimp saute in white wine.

ugh... fury rising some more.

I was just wondering how many of you do this type of cooking while "Camp N Out", do you find this usefu?
Would you go through all this trouble of carrying a cooler, grill, seasoning and god knows what else. just to enjoy 1 meal?

In the end I guess the only good thing I retained from this was don't forget the wine!

All I can tell you is...

Ive seen that show, and it sucks.

Tail gating and car camping yea sure, Ive been known to bring a bbq in the truck. Camping with a canoe or backpack? hell no. I like to keep it minimal wherever possible.

Well, I do a lot of car camping, and yes we take a small charcoal bbq, as well as a cooler or two, depends on how many people are camping. And yes, sometimes we'll take a couple of stakes we have been marinating, or a big swordfish steak, or some chicken. But, we usually camp for a couple of days, and enjoy more than just one meal. We bring spices as well, as we also fish and are likely to cook up some fresh trout.

Car camping? Hell yea, bring whatever you want, you have the ability, why not enjoy some good meals?

Backpacking? Well, of course you are limited by what you can take, so of course you're not going to take a bbq and steaks.

Sorry, never seen the show, so I don't quite know exactly what you are talking about.

that show is probably geared more towards big RV "campers" that bring everything including the kitchen sink (and stove, and toilet, and refrigerator) into the "wilderness" with them.

for car camping, it is not uncommon to bring plenty of goodies for fun. for hiking-camping i take very little.
