Camp/trail food when you can't eat wheat/gluten?

For a day trip, whether hiking or four wheeling. Fruit and nut trail mix, jerky of your choice, and crackers (cheese and peanut butter are my pick). I usually carry Propel packs to add to my water.

While, I'm not usually one for dietary wonder cures. I'm sitting in a hotel room in Toledo, Ohio attending a research conference. Today I tended a great section talking about the benefits of DHA fatty acids that was incredibly convincing. These are PUFA-type, OMEGA-3 fatty acids found in fish. Apparently though the quality and characteristics of OMEGA-3 in genuine fish (farmed salmon actually the highest quantities) far exceed the characteristic of most of the omega-3 enriched foods (e.g. omega-3 eggs and vegetable oils) derived from plant sources.

The DHA-fatty acids coming from salmon and other cold water fish are incorporated into the phospholipids of your cell membranes. This has been demonstrated in both animal models and humans to have a very strong effect on auto-immune disorders including - alergeric reactions, asthma, crohn's disease and arthritis.

The downside and at the heart of the debate in this conference session is the issue of pollutants in fish and whether risk to pollutants outweigh the benefits of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Basically, avoiding high mercury fish and focusing on farmed raised salmon you can maximize your exposure to DHA. The recommended meals was 5-7 meals per weak of farm raised salmon. Thats a lot of fish :D Fish oil supplements could also be good for you.

If you aren't a pregnant or expect to be a pregnant female, then the benefits of high fish intake (cold water, oily fish) seem pretty damn good, particularly if you are suffering from extreme allergies. While, not a miracle cure (are there any?), this might help you out!

Sounds like a conference put on by Big Ag the likes of which must be a Fish Farming concern IMO! LOL!
