Campanion or RC-5?

Both!

I went with the Campanion. This decision was based solely on the price, but I am saving my pennies to buy the RC-5 some day.

I'd say get the BK-2 and slap some micarta scales on it. They're both really good knives made out of 1095 steel, so it comes down to what you think will work best for you. The RC-5 has a little better sheath, in my opinion, but the Becker has a much better handle configuration (again, that's my opinion). To me, the handle comfort wins out big time if I'm going to be using the knife a lot. They're both tough, capable knives with the same spine thickness, that should serve you well under almost any conditions. Incidentally, the Becker BK-2 Campanion is a lot less expensive.

It would be hard to justify the price in my opinion, especially since they'll have micarta available for the Becker.

Man, I think you should get both just for the heck of it. I can't see you every go wrong with either one.

Basically it comes down to aesthetics of blade shape on these two knives. Personally, I think they are both too thick for their length. I'd go with the RC-6 over the RC-5 at a reduced cost to the 5.

I got to handle the BK2 from Kabar and I own an RC-5.

I find the handle much more comfortable and grippy on the RC-5. The BK-2 handle was not flush with the tang making it uncomfortable in many grips for me.

The edge was better on the RC-5 as well. However, I had mine thinned and convexed so its a great cutter now and spends most of its time on my Daypack.

The Sheath on the RC-5 is way nicer and more functional.

I would go with the RC 5, however I have never owned the BK 2. I have only handled it. I do, however own an RC 5, and it is one of my favorites.

You have to factor in the warranties of both companies as well...I'm not so sure abour Kabar's warranty but RAT Cutlery's is second to none.

I own a BK-2 - go with the RC-5. It's not that I dislike Beckers, they make a great knife for the price, but for me, 'Dirty Girl' (BK-2) is just too clunky (that's a technical word, right??? )

As far as warrranties go, I think they would be about equal.

Doc

Don't get me wrong, I would probably prefer the RC-5 but I don't know if it is so much better as to justify the additional expense.

I've considered both of them. I think, for my money and for what I think would serve me the best, I'm going to go with an RC-4. I don't think I need the thicker blade. I have other tools for heavy duty chopping or prying. Something to think about.

I would love to, but that would only make me spend the extra $$$ and get one.

You may find that you don't like it. not likely though...

I'm going away on the 19th for a couple of weeks. So if you would like to borrow mine and beet up on it; send me a pm.

I went both ,I picked up the BK2 for my son and the RC5 for me.. both are great but if only one ,I would get the RC5,I love the sheath Eagle brand ,high quality and comes with micarta scales for the extra cost over the BK2

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure it is worth every penny and then some. Just can't justify the extra $$$ right now.

Both great knives.

I've been carrying the RC-5 alot lately and I love it, but I've beat the TAR outta my Beckers and they just shrug it off.

I guess if you care about things like micarta and high end sheathing, the becker is going to cost you as much as the RAT in the long run by the time you upgrade.

If you just want an inexpensive user that'll take all the abuse you can dish out, get the Becker.
