campanion sharpening question

I have one of the new Camillus campanions. I was wondering what is the best angle to sharpen it, and what angle does camillus put on them. I saw somewhere that the angle was around 30 to 35 degrees, is this correct or not.

Good question Jim....I am wondering the same thing.

Will,
Should I just use my Sharpmaker and sharpen it on the 40 degree angle or the 30 degree back bevel?

Thanks,

If you want to leave it at a NIB angle, color the edge with a marker and use that as a guide. However for optimum results it depends on what you are doing with it and how much force you are applying during use. Generally I lower the angle a little each time on all my knives until they get damaged too much during use, I then back off and make it a little more obtuse, result, optimal angle achieved.

Gentlemen,
Jim and Gregg, thanks for being customers,...and Cliff, thanks for stepping in with good advice, because you are 'spot on'!

Jim,
We hand sharpen all of our knives, and BK&T is no exception. Our target sharpening angle on the CAMPANION is 35 degrees. But of course there is the ever present chance of human error. I measured the 'user' CAMPANION I have here at the house and it is about 33 degrees. As Cliff decribed, if you wan to match whatever your knife's bevel is....mark the edge with a magic marker, and sharpen until it goes away

Gregg,
In my case with a 33 degree bevel, since I had no edge damage that needed 'rebuilding', I sharpened my CAMPAION on the 40 degree set of holes on my SHARPMAKER, using it mainly to 're-align the edge', and had it shaving and cleanly slicing newsprint in just a few minutes.

Cliff,
Great advice. Folks need to take a few minutes to understand how this whole 'edge-geometry' thing works, and then they can sharpen their knives better to suit their needs.

Thanks for the interest guys!

Thanks for the help. I was looking for an approximate angle to use. My present sharpening system only goes to a 25 degree angle. Thanks to you all.
