Hi everyone.
Well it has been no secret that I have been swamped with the most outstanding acts of Kindness, so much so that to be honest I feel extremely overwhelmed.
I first came in here when I posted a knife that I had bought here in New Zealand, and posted it in Bernards forum, Charlie came in and asked me to post the knife in Traditionals here, and my goodness...that was that... I have to admit...life has NEVER been the same.

I used to own quite a collection of fixed blades...I think I own around 10 or 12 now :)

Brad, Charlie, Anthony, Mike B, Jake, Vince, Hal, Andi, Jim ( Boggs ), Jason, Jack Black, Fes, Ryan ( nevermind35 )
These guys I have been the very lucky recipient of their fantastic generosity...and it would take pages to try and explain just how much I owe them, and if you look at my friends list, there are others ( plus ) whom I owe such a great deal to.

I have 3 knives here up for grabs, two are real neat knives by a wonderful Custom Knife Maker who I think we are extremely lucky to have participate in our Forums, he makes a lovely knife of that you and I can afford, which in a short time this will have to change-as this man makes a lovely knife -JOHN LLOYD.
I have carried both of these knives, and they are Fantastic to say the least, I bought them Brand new, and feel ashamed that they have not been used more-they are too good to just sit there-I want the winners to use these knives
I carried the Ivory slippie for quite some time...loved it!, then I bought the Saddlehorn...loved that..then that got put aside for a more production Slippie..you know how it goes :o
The wee Toothpick is a Case Damascus hardly used, with a slightly ugly sharpening on such a fine blade-please don't get me wrong...its hardly anything at all - but I feel it is worth mentioning. I put this in for the guys who like to carry a smaller knife..
Ok, So I would say that the Saddlehorn is 1st Prize, the pre-ban Ivory comes in one hang-of-a close second - but 2nd prize it is, and the toothpick the 3rd prize...Neat Stag on this wee knife..
I want you guys as per usual to post photos, I want you to try and imagine that you were commissioned to take a photo that will be used as a cover for a book that Charlie has written, and his co-authors are we traditionalists ...this photo is the Cover...go for it.

Now when I mention Charlie, I know HJ's, Barlows etc come immediately to mind, but my lovely Wife Sue is going to be judge-so take into consideration that Sue wont be looking for the type of knife, she will be judging the photo and what the photo does for the knife...so lets keep that in mind.
I will be in Australia for the next week, so this will run for say....2 weeks or so...please...give this everything you got... go get that one killer shot.
I want to sign off to say that I want everyone here to know just how great I feel here in my home away from home. I feel extremely privileged to be part of such an amazing crowd, I owe you all so very very much.
I also want to add, that if I havent mentioned you in the part of gifting a knife, it certainly doesnt mean that I arent appreciative of being part of your team, because there is a multitude of people here of whom I am so very very glad I "know"-if you have talked to me ... then you know who you are :D

Knives..
Saddlehorn, CPM154, 3 & 5/8ths closed, beautiful DEEP crimson/brown jigged bone, beautiful Walk and Talk, with a crisp "snap" at every stop, this knife does have a half stop.

Can I add the Ivory is stunning on this, F&F is superb, the knife has a fairly hard pull-I would rate this at a 7-8 out of 10, BUT you can pinch it open...and I HAVE 4X2'S as thumbs :o, and I open the knife by this method-pinching instead of the Nick..the photo's make the patina look extremely harsh...it is nothing like this in your hand, beautiful assertive Walk and Talk, with a commanding "Snap"...this is a real honey of a knife, I wanted something special to put up here.... The 52100 patina's FAST as you know...

Case Damascus Toothpick..no half stop, lovely fluid Walk and Talk... just too small for Sausage fingers :o

I'm in, and thank you for your generosity. Those knives sure look great, and with the ivory to age and 52100 blade to patina, I'm sure it will get a lot of character from the lucky winner.

Duncan, you are such a class act and just a pleasure to know. I often times just post mediocre pictures of knives. I will try and do my best to come up with something that is up to the caliber of this great giveaway:thumbup: I will be back!!!

Just curious and I apologize if I didn't read carefully but when will the "Cover Shot" contest giveaway be chosen? I want to get in on time:)

Thank you Duncan!!!

Paul

Way to go all in Duncan! This will make some folks very happy indeed.

Look ma, no picture. Not an entry.

Hello.
Im not sure Im qualifiing into this giveaway, but I will tell you a strange story and show you a picture. But its not a picture for a cover of a book, its just one of the pictures inside the book.

Anyway.

Last year, Just after new Year, I was in my loghouse in Digerberget. I was splitting firewood and the temperature was very harch. Lifting my sight from the work, locking over the acer of open land, I saw a man coming out of the forest. He mooved with athority on his skiis taging a sledge behind him. He skied towards me and it was obvious that he came to talk to me. When he came closer I could see that the sledge was filled with campinggear for living outside a longer period in midwinter.
As he got real close we said hallo to eathother and it became obvious he talked english. He told me he was skiing a long and cold journey. I asked the stranger if he was hungry and he followed me inside the cabin.
We had a talk during drinking a pot of coffee and eating some bread and dried, smoked moosehart.
He told me his name was Duncan and that he had travelled a long way from Paradise, New Zeeland. He was taking part of a worldwide bookprojekt lead by a man from Canada. The title of the book was "Hobolife way North"
Different capthers was written by different people from all around the world Liked by a internet forum. The book was about strolling around different places in different times of year in the far corners of the nothern hemisphere.
Duncans chapther was about wintercamping in Jämtland Sweden and the Canadian bookwriter named Charlie had given him special direktions that the village of Digerberget was supposed to be visited.
After we had eaten the man I now felt was a friend wanted to take a picture of the knifes I carried before he restarted his travel.
He arranged my knifes and some firewood in the snow outside the house to give a feeling of the coldness in that wintersday. I told him the Leuku was a finnish Martiini I got as a teenager just after 1980 and that the slipjoint was a new one I bought myself just a few years ago since I have gained an interest in old american patterns. I also told him that a new for me, and usefull feature of the knife was its awl.

You can understand how surprised I was when this picture arrived to me yesterday from the canadian writer Charlie, where he told me the picture with my knifes was supposed to be presented on page 53 in Duncans chapther about wintercamping.
One of the strangest things ever happened to me and I will for sure try to get the book. I sometimes think of the kind man from Paradise and the adventures he had to go through to make his chapther of that book.

:)

Same here, for me-- not an entry. I'm still very full from others' recent generosity to me, and look forward to celebrating with you and the upcoming winners.

I do think Andi should get a bonus prize, just for being the first to follow instructions. ;)

I don't have a clear idea of a Cover, but the possibilities for the author photograph on the back of the book boggle the imagination, and possibly cause mothers to draw their young children close and back away. Jack's got the right idea, above.

Now where'd the Mickey Mouse Hat picture go, or the one with the Mondo knife...?

Cheers, Duncan. Thanks for doing this!

~ P.
