Camper found after 6 wks in wilderness

OK, now the guys who found her said, she was wearing all cotton clothes, and a tent that wasn't meant for this type of weather. She had depelted her area of firewood. Burning pages of a survival guide to keep warm.
wow.

Now it really is looking like a miracle she lasted as long as she did.

All this taken into consideration, even a cheap sleeping bag and a cheap tent are a helluva lot better shelter than just a space blanket.
But, she made it, all that time. Ate grass, drank from the river.

Lastly, a brief thought: a small paperback book as tinder/kindling.

I wonder if she was ever "lost" in a literal sense. "Missing"? Sure. Unable to travel? Sure. Lost???

Rain. Snow. Temps WAY below freezing. No firewood in the area. Danger of "forest fire" from landing the chopper???

I'd like to know what sort of "drumming" she was there to do (referring to earlier newspaper story). American Indian gatherings? That might explain what she was up to (questing).

Those two guys have excellent taste in mystery authors.

I also tend to see a lot of positives in this lady. I see an independent person assured enough in herself to camp alone, unique for a female. Leaving a note on her vehicle dash would be an open invitation to a male predator, predators and no woman camping alone would do that. Tell friends, family were she is going, yes that was a mistake. However, we are talking about a very independent person. In a perfect world we would do everything perfectly, alas, I am far from perfect and make mistakes all the time.

She did just fine!

If the other fella a few weeks back followed her common sense he'd still be breathing.

She lived and thats ALL! that matters.

Skam

Not all, but a lot of the Wilderness areas around here have a little Kiosk at the trail heads that you can put your name and itenary.

When I have gone alone, which is very seldom, I always put my route and if I run into any kiosks at trail junctions I check in there too. I also let somebody know when approx I expect to come out of the woods and on what days I expect to be on what parts of the trail.

This is kind of like the old saw about flying: any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. In this case, any survival situation that results in survival is a good one.
