campfire meals?

fajitas are popular with my friends. Easy to have everything presliced too. Some peppers, onion, and meat of choice along with some seasonings and tortillas(sometimes I'll add some portabello mushrooms too). Its simple, packs pretty small and is really tasty for the effort put in.

It's nothing pretty or fancy, but for a young single guy I was very satisfied with both the taste and nutritional value (but especially the cost!!!!) I think I spent less money on food for that 3 day campout than one would pay for a single MRE.

Something I make a lot in camp - Italian sausage with green peppers, onions & mushrooms in marinara sauce. Just slice everything up and saute it in marinara sauce. I serve it with garlic bread. Quick, easy and very delicious!

That's what I'm talking about. You can't go wrong with some sausage and peppers! I'll have to try it with the marinara, though. Never done that one before!

Damn this thread is making me hungry. I’m going to start a fire out back of the office….

You keep some high heels and a purse in your car?

If you are planning your trip, I agree... mRE's are confusing. Had a friend that claimed to love them, but he was always hungry and eyeballing my food

I love burgers.... and taking potatoes and a a small bottle of oil.... fries are easy too.

Anyone ever made eggs and bacon in a paperbag? I could have sworn we did this at scout camp but I'll be darned if remember how now. I do remember putting a soupcan size hole in a piece of bread, cracking an egg inside, and cooking both on top of a coffe can bottom.

We do boiled omlets in ziploc brand bags, boil water over in a pot , crack two eggs into a ziploc bag and fill with whatever you want-cheese, chopped veggies, bacon, ham, tuna... seal er up and let the bag bob in the water-it takes a little bit, maybe 20 minutes, but you CAN cook eggs in a plastic bag-it just has to be ziploc brand, generic brands will melt on you.

You can put anything on a plate and make it look pretty but there something about ANYTHING cooked over an open fire thats is so much more appealing to me. Damn im hungry now.

To contribute, we usally do homemade chilli over the fire. Yumm!

I like seafood or kimchi "ramen" with onion, jalapeno, oyster mushrooms, and maby some canned shrimp. If you can bring an egg throw two in with the noodles and its good.

We did the bacon. As I recall you hang it over the fire and the grease contained inside cooks it. Find that perfect distance between heating the bag and setting it on fire and you will be cooking with grease.

Also cooked hamburger patties on a flat rock that was next to the fire but we have limestone around here. It works well for those purposes.
