OK, Heres a test.
On your next camping trip, try to do all your cutting "chores" with just a Vic. Classic. I'm not saying go out with only a Vic. classic. Just start off with it and see how far you get. I think that you will be surprised.

I am sure your right. I have been on many camping trips where I didn't even touch a knife ecxept for a butter knife and the classic could do that as well.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. There have been many times when all I used on a trip is an axe and Vic Farmer.

Alway have a strait blade with me, but just was never really needed.

I can see using a relatively small blade, but I need somewhat more handle to hold onto than the Classic with my fairly large hands. Possibly a Victorinox Floral or Gardner with that razor-sharp sheepsfoot blade would suffice. Those two models seem to be identical to me, despite their names and the $3 price difference at SMKW. Either of these two actually makes a very nice, lightweight, low-key pocket knife. Of course, so does the Bantam. That's as small as I feel comfortable going in a SAK.

DANG......it's enough of a challenge just to get me out of the house and now you want this? lol;)

want a real challenge, how about no cutting tools?

The local air cadets here, when on camping/survival trips have no knives, asides for officers which aren't passed around.
I have seen 13-16 y/o kids survive in thick bush, using only their surroundings...

so hows is limiting yourself to just a vic such a challenge?
Is it a challenge to restrain yourself from bringing your drawer full of knives? it certainly is for me

Victorinox Floral or Gardner

Just for laughs, I bought one of each from SMKW a while back. It seems the only difference was that the cheaper one did not come in its own box. I still cant tell the difference between the two of them.

i started out with a vic classic when i was about 10, could go back to it if i wanted/needed to.

i am a knife knut, that means that i don't have to rely on that as my only blade. i do EDC a little pen knife with the secondary blade just shorter than the vic classic blade, alongside a larger knife. i mostly use the penknife for whittling, but it has done some pretty big sized chores.

the biggest problem for me is getting a grip on tiny handles like those of the vic classic. i like a big beefy handle. that's why my main EDC is an opinel #10. very comfy handle.

I've carried one of those in my pocket since I was 5-6 years old I think. Always had it with me even up until I made Eagle Scout. I retired my little red one and now I carry one in black. It sits at the bottom of my pocket for those "just in case" sorts of things. I still EDC a bigger knife of course. Right now it's my new SBMF 889. I've always liked those Single blade Sentry models from Victorinox. Kind of the "standard issue" for scouts.

Well, it can be done. . .but I won't try it.
Why?
I don't have a Vic Classic. But I can do it with a Vic Rucksack. :p

But I'd rather use only a kukri or hatchet.
