Camping knife

Havent been camping in 7 years or so. What should i bring for a blade. I have one fixed blade and a bunch of folders. Heres what i have to choose from that i trust/carry.

-Frosts Clipper
-Buck 110
-Kershaw Wildcat Ridge
-Buck X-Tract
-Victorinox Swisstool (Bringing no matter what)
-Benchmade Benchmite II
-Benchmade Griptilian 551S (Partial Serration)
-Kershaw Blur (Plain Edge)
-CRKT M16-03
-Victorinox Centurion

I know this should be in outdoors but i think it should go here, it is about knives more than camping lol. I'm bringing a hatchet too.

I would bring the Swisstool, the Clipper, the Griptillian, and the centurion. I just replaced my Blur with a Griptillian for EDC, and it seems a sturdier better knife in my opinion. Tough to count out the 110 though...maybe one of the previous posts is right...bring 'em all and see which ones you use.

I know i probably didn't make myself clear but i listed the ones available to bring. I have no extra money for stuff or id buy something from RAT cutlery for sure.

You are very clear, many just don't like to read.

I'd take the Clipper and Buck 110.

Lots of good knives there, and it would be hard to make a bad choice from your list. Here's a few thoughts.

  • If weight is a concern, you could probably get by with just the Victorinox Swisstool (since you are going to bring that regardless).
  • The Buck 110 is a great, heavy-duty folder but if you are bringing a fixed blade, it may be redundant.
  • If you want a true, light weight pocket blade to carry all the time, the Griptillian would be a great choice.
  • You can never really go wrong with a SAK, but if you already have the multi-tool the extra features on the Centurion may be redundant.
Hope that helps! ;)

i would like to get a scrapper 6. anyone have one for sale?
  1. Its generally considered poor form to hijack someone elses thread with an off-topic post like this. You should start a new thread instead.
  2. There is a whole separate sub-forum for posting want to buy messages, you might want to try again there.
;)

An Alox SAK, plus a Mora #1.

With the hatchet and Swisstool already going,I would opt for the Buck 110.But,that all depends on what fixed blade you have.

Well, my trip went well(ish). Friday-saturday night was beautiful, and i only used my kershaw wildcat ridge [everyone commented on how sharp it was]. It's a 15 yr old knife i believe, maybe older. my uncle gave it to me. So i brought that and the swisstool. Didnt use the swisstool. It poured saturday night-sunday and our "weather proof" tent ended up leaking at all seams, snapped a pole and collapsed. Luckily i realized it was unsafe before we fell asleep and got my girlfriend and i out and into the truck and we slept in there. Horrible. Just thunderstorms with medium winds. It's an ozarks trails tent from walmart. Well, i think next time i go i'll just bring the kershaw.

yay wal mart tents!!!!!!!

I had one of those... just a backyard tent for me. I set it up and slept in it every night for a week (I was a kid) and about midway thru the week it started raining and I slept in the house... went out a day or two after the rain stopped, and there was a good 1 and 1/2 inches of water on the floor of the tent, my cot pad was soaked therefore my pellet gun that I had put under the pad was covered with rust, and (being a backyard tent..) my playstation2 which was sitting on a book on the floor was barely still above the water (thankfully). The TV was on a table so it was ok. All of this and the rain fly was in fact on. But still... needless to say my next tent was a Kelty. (which has been thru several rain storms and has yet to leak)
