camping knife

im checkin out the bushcraft knife from fiddleback forge. wow it looks amazing. a little long but everything else looks perfect. has anyone delt with this maker? also, im a little confused by the difference between the bushcraft and the bushcraft jr.

hello everyone. I have just recently started to go camping (a couple times last year, hopefully lots more this year) so i need some help deciding on what knife would best suit my needs. This knife will mainly be used for fire prep and occasionaly carving. i will always take my axe with me so i dont need a huge chopper. at first my mind was set on either a bark river bravo 1 or RAT rc-4.
Today i went outside to practice making fire and used only my axe and my bark river bumble bee. this proves that i dont need a big knife to get a fire going. so my first question is: are there any other likely tasks that i would need a bigger knife for?
I am now thinking of getting a knife a little smaller like the bark river gunny or RC-3. can some experienced campers give me the pros and cons of going down a size? I think i would prefer a convex blade, but im open to others.

I would also like to hear what all you guys and gals take camping.
thanks everyone

If you don't need to chop then I would go with a knife around 4-5 in. Knives that I like are the Rat rc-4,Fallkniven f1(the rubber can ripup if you baton large chunks wood),Becker bk-2 campanion,Bark River liten brorr, arora,or brovo 1. For large knives I love the next gen Ka-bar (plain edge). It will chop saplings much beter than the Rat rc-4.

Armstrong, you won't go wrong with Fiddleback Forge. He has a lot of followers on here and makes a solid product built for using. Almost any knife will work most of the time. Where the custom knives shine is in pride of ownership and handcrafted quality. Of course different makers quality varies but overall those who do not make a good product don't stick around long.

I think all of the suggestions here would work fine. Get what works for you and meets your needs.

For Camping purposes I always carry a Benchmade Rukus 610 plenty of blade for anything that needs to be done around a camp site and for chopping purposes I carry a Estwing Sportsman's Hatchet, and at 20 Bucks its the best bang for your buck when it comes to a small hatchet...
