Are ya ready?
Wed. afternoon I get to my camp site, got set up,then went for a walk down by the creek.(Hurly Creek)
It'll be just a trickle in a few weeks as the last of the snow melts up higher.
Notice the green lushness.

Butterflys were in abundance.

Walking back to camp, more green lushness....

I spotted these Holly leafs & had to get a pic with the Hiker with Bloodwood scales.
Sweet knife & aptly named, thanks again Todd.

I recognize that Hiker, nice to see it in good hands, thanks or the pictures, looks like a nice time.

So I get back to camp, kicked back & relaxed for awhile, then whipped out a couple more knives for a little comparison.
I scored a coveted Skookum Bush Tool in A2 a couple of weeks ago & had to check it out & decided another Scandi would be the best knife to compare it too.
I had my JK Phoenix in John's 01 along for the comparison.
After some carving & notching & divot making I gotta say they are both comfortable in hand & both performed pretty much equally.
The Phoenix's drop point made it easier to do the bow drill divot though,as I had to lay the SBT over more to get the right angle for the divot, but it would be better for drilling smaller holes.
Carving was equal,notching also.
My pic of the fuzz sticks was too out of focus, but they were both equal at the task too.
I'm not sure about the necessity of the welded on butt cap,but it's nice to know I can pound it into something or break open some nuts if the need arises.;)

Some lucky SOB has a plot of land with an A frame cabin/shack smack dab in the middle of it hence the boundry sign.

Of course I had the Hiker along.

OK,friday was sling shot shooting' day.

38cee7b7.jpg

My first target set up wasn't too stable because of the nice cool breeze blown'.

I would like to blame the lousy shooting on the cool breeze, but I think I had something to do with it also.;)

So,I made myself a target frame..

Friday eve & fire prep time.
The Hudson Bay XL & LRK+ shined...
I split a gnarly hunk of wood with the HB & it was actually bent going through for awhile, but made it through...
with considerable effort on my part.
I love beating on my HBXL!

Lost a bit more of the heat treat scale there.

I had to see how the edge held up after battoning through the gnarly chunk of wood so I made some curlies.
Seems to be fine.

I then chopped one of the halves in two & made more curlies!
That 01 sure is some fine knife steel!

Then it was the LRKs turn.
I shaved some curls of fatwood & layed them on a nice soft bed of old mans beard.
Now to wait for sundown to spark up the fire.
Don't worry,it won't be long...

All laid out & ready for that spark from the ferro rod.

So,thats it,I sat around the fire till the wee hours, then got up late this morn,(Sat.)
had breakfast & packed up for home.

I hope you all had a great,safe 4th.

Nice Mykel!

I wish it was a nice here - it has been 100+ for the last 4 days.

Last night my ac gave out - but it is supposed to only be 84 here today.

I'll be working on the ac unit but I won't be able to get any parts to speak of until tomorrow.

Thanks for the fun trip report - it's like I got a little camping in myself!

best

Thanks for the photos Mykel. It's nice to see all that green!

I`ve got the same slingshot. Where did you get the black pouch for the ammo? Does it have a belt loop on the back of it? Love the Phoenix, and glad to hear it compared well with your Skookum.

Definitely looks like you enjoyed your time out there. Really like the XL Hudson Bay, very nice. I've been practicing with a slingshot recently, but I am still not getting consistent results with it. Need to practice a bit more before I'd ever rely on one.

Great pics! Looks like you had a great time.

Glenn

Looks like a blast of a trip.

I am very envious and maybe a little mad your high temps were in the 70's.

Looks like fun....I have a week of vacation that I was planning on doing a road trip up to WI or MI and do some camping, but my car is unusable now.

Hey thanks for the pics! Always makes me want to get out more when I see camping photos. What type of slingshot is it? I have to buy one and start to pracice for the next JK gathering!

John,
I got the pouch in the tool section at the local department store. It came in a pack of 3 & no belt loop, just a plastic clip.
I believe I've seen them at Home Depot too.

Dan,
it's a Trumark,I took the wrist brace off,but am thinking I should put it back on,it might improve my groups & yer welcome for the pics.
