Camping question, what are you taking with you?

It's been awhile since I've posted (graduated and working now.... so that logically means money for Busse's right??) and I need a good camping knife. Well, more like backpacking, one that'll be in either a thigh rig or off the belt that can be used for chopping and all the good camping stuff.

I currently have a Hell Razor (that's stuck in storage for another month) and am looking for something a little bigger. I'm thinking about one of the SAR-8s if I can get my hands on one.

So basically, you're going backpacking, what big utility knife are you taking?

Thanks!

If I was still doing back country I would probably take Sarsquatch as my camp knife.

The sar8 is a beauty and a nearly perfect camp knife. My buddy got one and I stalled and now wish i had gone for it after handling his. Its relatively light for the its chopping capacity. Im a sucker for the battle mistress as my camp knife, though some would argue its a bit heavy for a backpacking knife (the energy you spend carrying it is probably equal to the energy you save chopping), and there's the new bushwacker mistress that should be the next Busse offering for those who like a thinner, more packable mistress.

I agree completely! I was lucky and got in on the SAR 8 SE offering at the Company Store. If I had to choose a camping knife, it would definitely be the SAR 8. It's a good chopper, and IMHO, the perfect blade for camping chores.

I take a Steel Heart Ergo into the field whenever I go out. It lives on my pack and has served me well for all kinds of jobs. I generally do not do a lot of heavy chopping, however.

About the biggest I would carry backpacking would be an NMSFNO, but honestly I don't see that one going along for many trips longer than overnighters.

For trips where I expect to do a LOT of walking, the simple Scrap Yard Son of Dogfather is an excellent choice. Much lighter than the full tang Busse knives, but just as capable, with the same great warranty, and a more comfortable handle.

If you're an INFI snob, and S7 just isn't good enough for you, then the basic series seems like a logical choice.

Although its a rat I always take my Ratmandu. Overall for weight and size and practical use...it's the bomb!

An SFNO is as big/heavy as I would carry.
You can still find the SFNO LE's at a good price.

I carry more than one:eek:

Most times I have 3 between my day pack and main pack and on my hip:D

Day pack or PSP I have my RMD
Main pack Desert Jack or SFNO LE
On my hip in my HH with my new pants from Mikey Moto

This is just me:D

Ohh, well if we are talking smaller knives....

I would take an RMD, if I had one.

I take my SJ everywhere I go, as well as my SMF.

This combo is suitable for EDC, camping, and anything else.

well the problem I have is that when I camp it is my time to play with all my new toys so I end up bringing a truck load of knives with me. That said ideally something big (Mistress) and something small (HRLM/Bravo I) and either my NMSFNO or TB on my pack
