Camping with the unprepared.

And folks want to know why I have 2 and 3 of everything I need:rolleyes: No one that goes camping with me ever has all their own gear:thumbdn: Their on their own from here out as I trade or sell off all my spares since I'm out of work due to Lyme Disease.

LOL, yea I been camping with folks that I could sell a sheet if visqueen and a pancake to for $300

You're being an enabler. Practice tough love. If they don't have something they need - except medical aid - let them go without so that they can be prepared next time.
Email them your check list of things to take.

Wow.

More victims of the 'If it can be rolled up, it is camping gear and should be attached to my backpack' school of camping!

Poor folks - must have been a rough hike.

All the best,

- Mike

Some newbies have no sleeping pad and I've seen them bring a second cheapo bag for that purpose. Or they're just afraid of getting too cold!

Last summer some friends and I ran into a group of 6 that looked similarly unprepared and were lost late in the afternoon. Three young guys had three very hot young women with them and were about to take them on a dusk death march up the mountain. I tried to talk them out of it---asking what's the point of bringing three gorgeous young gals if you get them so mad they won't even talk with you, let alone share a tent? They weren't smart enough to listen to the "old bull" (if you're familiar with that classic old bull/young bull joke). I'm sure I know the outcome!

ill bet you that guy never gets his girlfriend to go backpacking again after that :D:)

My gf knows not to tag along, she thinks I like to get to close form the creepy crawlies. but she is fun to take out on a day hike. nothing more though gahahah:D:thumbup:

there are certain of my friends that I allow to "tag along" under certain circumstances, and there are those I know, that I avoid taking with, even thought they may appear to be more prepared than myself, as for my GF, its always an argument to see who gets to be in charge of the first aid, food, etc... that's how I know I found a winner!

I laughed my butt off when I saw that pic. I see it all to often at the state park that is between two large college campuses.

The last time I was out, from the trial head to one of the overnight camping areas was about 5 miles. There was a guy and a girl carrying a ton of equipment. And to top it off, the poor girl was PULLING a wheeled suitcase like you see at the airport on top of carrying a lot of gear. It banged along the trail pretty well until one of the wheels came off. I came on her later on as she sat by the trail side waiting for her (soon to be ex, no doubt!) boyfriend to get back with some other kind of carrying device.

I remember my first long hiking/camping trip. I had four of everything and several things that did the same thing in different ways. After the first two days and about 25 miles, I decided that I would go naked before I would carry that much crap again. I was ready to ditch my gear and take my chances.

Live and learn...

Robert
