This is a very long story that has been condensed as best as I could. I advise anyone who doesnt want to read alot to run from this post.
My roommate and I decided to leave town yesterday and go camping for a few days. We got out of town and headed up the dirt road to where we were planning on camping. At one junction in the road there were multiple snow burms that had to be crossed. We got stuck on the first one which was no big deal it took us maybe 45 minutes to dig out and continue to the second one. While cleaning up the shovels a guy came up and started talking to us about our plans for the weekend which we gladly shared because we knew he couldnt get his Honda Civic up over the snow burms. He mentions something about trying another route which should be clear of most snow. Thinking nothing of this we continued up to some meadows where we planned to camp. The road was covered in snow 1 to 2 feet deep. It was a fun drive. We arrived at our camp and built a fire and began to set up camp. Once the tents were up we decided to shoot some targets. Yadda yadda long story short we end up going to bed about midnight. We are chatting between the two tents when we hear something walking around our tents. We listen for a few minutes while each of us, unaware of what the other one was doing, loaded our rifles and exit the tents. Searching the campsite we find nothing but a shadow in the distance, and upright shadow. Being as we were the only people we had seen all day we were very confused as to what/ who was up there. And then it hit us. The guy from the snow burm. The route he was planning to take around literally came out to our camp. We were officially scared beyond scared. We didnt know where he was, what he wanted, or what he had with him. We threw some logs on the fire (which by the way was not only a pain to light but a pain to keep going, this alone should have sent us home) and fired up the lantern. Throwing all of our stuff into the truck we cleaned the site in a matter of minutes and bombed down the now icy roads back to the highway. When we got back to the snow burms we were able to cross the first one with out problem but remembering that we hadnt lowered the first one we had to get out and shovel. What was once snow was now a frozen pile of ice and rocks. We looked at eachother and decided we needed out immediatly. We piled in the car, put on our seatbelts, and gunned it for the snow burm. Launching over the burm we met with a hard thud as we touched down. The next time we stopped was a stop light in town. I have never had a problem camping, I am that guy who could go to sleep in the middle of the woods and sleep more soundly than in any bed. I have never been more terrified in my life. I have definatly learned my lesson: even in the woods one must be alert and cautious about what they say to someone. So that was our night, I am bummed about the camping but I did get to try out my Kershaw Outcast a little bit. Hope no one has to suffer the same mistakes as we did.
