It seems like all the steel i buy these days is warped all to hell, and i never notice it until its cut into the pieces to grind the profile out, is there anything that can be done to fix this?

I was thinking about when i do a normalizing heat, to stick it in between two cinder blocks, is there a better way?

What steels are you purchasing? Are they Hot rolled or cold rolled and annealed?

All steel is bent/warped to some degree.i've read that some guys buy PG that really is straight as an arrow.i've yet to see it.everything i get is normally bent a good bit over the length of 3 feet.sometimes looks like a bow and arrow.

i use a small arbor press with 3 1/2" steel rods.i place two rods on the press and place the third on top of my steel.rthis lets you straighten out in specific area's.

Straightening steel is something you'll have to get use to.just keep at it and it'll become sceond nature

Straighten on the anvil with hammer, or a stump / chunk of wood with wooden mallet.
And always normalize.

If it's a stubborn bend that just won't come out, heat it to around 1200 degrees for around 45 minutes to stress relieve. It will straighten just fine after than. I usually just clamp the bar or profiled (not bevel ground) knife in the vise with some leather around it and push it to true, adjusting the steel position in the vise as I need to. And then normalize prior to heat treating.

Have you considered if the steel is straight, and everything else in your shop is warped?
