the 110 auto has a safety. its the sheath. its designed to be a safety when carried in it. where the trouble comes if folks stick the knife it in a pocket. which is a very bad idear. it doesn't even really have the recessed button setup.....which doesn't really work all that well as a safety feature. George Schrade tried this over 100 years ago, saw it failed and put safeties back on his autos. safeties on side opener autos were around until benchmade put a patent on a slide style safety and started going after other makers who had a similar designed safety. so they all stopped and went to recessed buttons, cause they didn't have anything else.
overall it's created a bad idear that safeties get in the way of speed. similar to the glocks internal safeties creating the idear that an external safety slowed things down too much and had no use.
