Can anybody explain the SUBENZA's steller reputation?

As much as I've tried I couldn't fall in love with a Sebenza, and don't get me wrong I've tried. I've met and talked to Chirs at several knife shows, even handled the man's wood scaled personal carry knife. Beyond a doubt a fine knife, best materials finely crafted, outstanding QC, but as plain as a mud fence.I won't buy a knife with straight lines on it's handles. Just when I thought I could put CRK behind Chris comes out with a new model, a little gents knife with a style that caught my eye and Zircote wood inlay handles (okay it's not stag, but it is nice). The knife is called the MNANDI and now I may have a problem, because if they don't price them like a custom there may be a CRK I want.

No, in reality, they are simplicity in its most complex form. Beauty made steel and titanium.

Gosh.........GUSH ON!!!

Ok. Curiosity has bested me, I guess I have to get one.

How much are they and what distributors handle them?

Any suggestions on varriations or are any available?

I really like my LCC and MOD autos and I've got a knife to carry for every day of the year up until October 17 2007. Better get one for that day hmmm?

Does CRK make auto versions?

Thanks for the replies:^)

OK, you've taken the first step. You've admitted you have a problem

. Go to the Chris Reeve Forum and do a search for "FAQ". This thread will go a long way to answer your questions about the knives themselves. Then just do a couple searches for "Sebenza" and read to your heart's content.
There will be no auto version, and for heaven's sake don't even ask that question over in the CRK forum!!
Am I the only one impressed that Tom Mayo and DDR think highly of the Sebenza? Two of the premier custom makers of framelock folders....

A search on any engine will bring up several dealers who carry Sebenzas. You are going to pay somewhere around $325 for a new large plain Sebenza. You can find them for a bit less on Ebay. I got mine for $290 new off of there but I hooked up with a local seller and could actually examine the knife before I bought.

I have a large Sebenza and I'm quite happy with the size since I don't mind carrying by the clip...It would be a little bulky in a front pocket though. I've heard very good things about the two smaller sizes as well though.

Hope you find one soon and enjoy it as much as the rest of us Sebbie owners do.

It's good to see the custom makers (Darrel & Tom), acknowledge the Sebenza for what it is. Good form guys! And BTW, I lust after your creations, too.

And Blue, rice burners are cool, too. But it's different.

I have been carrying my lg plain a couple of years and it has worked flawlessly. What do you eanit in a folding knife? The Benz is a great cutter due to a thin edge and good geometry, it has a very strong and reliable lock with no real weakness, it is very carryable, and it is not too bad looking. I am a minimalist type guy, but the Sebenza is the best folder I have used. I also think the Darrell Ralph recurved frame lock (I forget the name - EDC?) would be an excellent knife - I love the recurve.

-Bart

bart, check out Darrell Ralph's Apogee also, which is the recurved frame lock he based the later EDC (Every Day Carry) on.

Neither is directly comparable to a Sebenza though. They are custom, and Darrell is great about making exactly the knife you want. But the price reflects it ... as much as new guys choke when they find out how much a Sebbie goes for, a custom will cost that little bit more!

Hey Esav. The Apogee was the one I was thinking of! I am not a beginner, I have many custom knives, some of my own design. I most always get fixed blades though, very few folders.

-Bart

Ok. So I guess I need a Sebenza and a "Hardly Ableson" to complete my life.

I guess Hardley Ablesons have gotten much more reliable since the pre AMF and AMF days but it used to be said that one should:

Buy a Harley, they're the BEST.
Ride a mile and walk the rest:^)

SETTLE DOWN NOW!!:^) Just kidding.

So is a Sebenza really $150.00 better than say, a MT LCC auto?

I guess I best put my Wednesday go to auction knife buyin shoes on and hit the cyber bricks:^)

I don't want to see any of you guys biddin against me now:^)

YES! The difference between today's Harley and the AMF era rats is incredible.

As to the Sebbies, if they were made by Ernie Emerson, half these posts would be talking about it's "gimmick factor" and how only "wannabes" carried them.

As it is, I'm a wannabe. I wannabe a Sebbie Owner!!!

...chuckle...

I find it hard to understand a sentence with the words Sebenza, gimmick, and wannabe so close together.

Just doesn't look right to me...

You guys gave me a GREAT idea.

I have a friend that has a 70s era AMF Hardley Ableson and under it would be a great place to lube my knives:^)
