Can anyone confirm a future RAT Folder?

can't wait, have a half serrated rat folder in aus 8 and it is great, wish I could have found a straight edge online but no luck.
1095 or a good tool steel and NO CHOIL(great on the fixed blades) would be awesome

4'' 154 CM drop point blade,Axis Lock, stainless steel construction + micarta or g10 scales would be awsome !

I'm still waiting for my Izula Handles and the new RC-3 grind. The folder is probably pretty far behind. I assume all will be worth the wait :)

Nice lock, good grip, and 1095 steel would be awesome. Doesnt need to be spectacular, just needs to get the job done, and that why I love rat.

I prefer their 1095. Stainless would be nice, but I am not really "into" the whole supersteel concept.

+1, Rowen's 1095 is amazing. It brought me back to good old carbon, and now I even like patinas, whereas before I (for no explicable reason) saw it as a dealbreaker.

be patient let them take their time to test and prove that the knife they are making is the best it can be just like the rest of their line.... and +1 on the 1095

I'm going to disagree with most of the folks who have posted so far and say that I'm hoping for the folder to be stainless. I love carbon steel in a fixed blade (and wouldn't mind it in a folder as long as it was D2 or similar) but maintaining the pivot area of a carbon steel folder can suck. Yes I know it's still doable but, unlike on a fixed blade, the internals of a modern-styled folder can be comparatively difficult to keep in good working order under extreme conditions. :)

440C and 154CM are fine in my book for a folding knife.

I've used lots of carbon steel slipjoints over the years without any serious maintenance problems.
I am not personally averse to higher end steels (I have an S30V knife on the way) i just generally prefer carbon steel for ease of sharpening and strength.
I have always shied away from D2 though, too much talk of difficulty sharpening and potential brittleness.
I like Queen knives but don't own any because they seem to use D2 for almost everything they make.
A carbon steel modern design folder would be pretty unique in todays market.

I don't want to rain on the RAT folder parade, but there are so many top notch folders available now, it would be easier for Jeff and Mike to just go out into the bush with a bunch of them and see which ones work best. Then maybe that manufacturer could make a special run with the RAT logo. But maybe not. I don't know a thing about contracts and trademarks and such. I do know that making good folders is not easy. Plus they have to sell for a price folks are willing to pay. Does Rowen have the expertise to make a folder at a competitive price? I am just asking. I really don't know.

You know, just thought about that. Yea then, i agree with you. I do not know a whole lot about stainless, but I guess I would choose a stainless that is extremely rust-resiliant and can take a beating without shattering under abuse like a lot of so called super steels. I would be alright with 440 personally. Like I said before, if it gets the job done....

No rain here, I think you are on to something. There are great companies to work with, One of the best around in folder design I think is Sal at spyderco. He knows his bases, and knows how to deliver a quality folder, bang for the buck, hands down. I can see how it would be hard to jump into the folder game with companies that have been doing nothing but folders for so long, you know what I mean? Sal has been known to go across country just to see peoples opinions on new knife designs, and is very open to thing such as this. A perfect example of a little-big knife company...

I dont know either.

I sure HOPE so though.:D

I'd damn sure be willing to give it a try. Gonna be pretty hard to get the Izula out of my pocket as a do-all work beater, though.

I generally agree with you. I stopped buying folders after I got into the Spyderco Endura. There are some phenomenal choices out there.

But... I think there is an opportunity to bring out something unique. Carbon steel folders are basically confined to slip joints. Slip joints are useful but sometimes it is great to have a locking blade especially in military/police applications which is a large portion of the RAT market (I am assuming based on their advertising). If RAT could bring to market a well made locking blade folder with a carbon steel blade (1095 would be fine with me), then they would have something that is somewhat unique in the market and I would think it would sell.

Good things take time, I am glad to hear that RAT wants everything done the right way and with quality and with its patrons in mind instead of like most companies just putting things out there with quick "marketing gimmicks" that usually backfire in the long run.

GREAT JOB so far on all that I have seen and read about all the knives they make.
