I saw this pic and I really want one but I have no idea what it is.

Al Mar push dagger #5030, maybe called the "snubby." I have been looking for a used one for quite some time. They are bad little blades. I saw one sitting on a table at a gun show and grabbed it quickly, but as I picked it up, I realized the handle was hollow plastic?!?!?!? It was a fake. I sat it right back down, and chastised the man working the both.

Must be exceptionally rare? I've never seen one and I've seen collectors tables who seemed to have one of everything they made.

Agreed! While not a collector, I am usually up on all things Al Mar, and I've never seen one. Until I read NCCNCs post, I would have assumed counterfeit using fake signature out of China or worse.

I've got a few Al Mar catalogs, and that is not in there. Could have been made in a different era than the catalogs represent though.
In all the magazines I've read, never ever saw that one mentioned.

FAKE FAKE!! Its on the famous ALI BABA SITE and ali express.. NOT ORIGINAL AL MAR from the 79-90s.. Not even a Fadden/Mar AL MAR..

I believe its a China special.. Just my opinion

dax got me to searching... I'm calling it a fake too for now...

1. There is a real Al Mar push dagger mentioned in verifiable (?) Al Mar literature with an entirely different shape...

2. A CLOSE UP of a similar picture OF THIS STYLE on the Internet shows a cheap ink only "chop" forgery attempt...

3. Check out the machine marks in the fuller... Not from Al, or even Fadden Mar...!

THIS one might have been real, but at least one picture in a Google image search of one like this is clearly a fake, with a page of pure Chinese (or similar) writing...But I'd never known of any AL Mar push daggers (AGAIN, though...I am FAAAAR from an expert on Al Mar...)

And BTW NCCNC-We share the same hometown...!

It's SAD that these are out there, but I'm glad I'm not one of poor sods trying to SELL one of the fakes for $200 plus dollars! I found three threads on various forums (since 08) where folks were doing just that...

Why make a "fake" of a model that doesn't exist in the first place?

It may very well be a fake but I still love the design of that blade. It would make an awesome small defensive knife. I'd love to have a well made one in 440C.

Blade is wicked for sure but the handle doesn't look especially functional.

When you are marketing fakes you are trying to assume the brand's stature because you do not feel your own brand warrants attention. Apparently many Chinese manufacturers feel this way. They should do the hard work of producing quality goods over a period of time to build a quality reputation for their own brand.

Have you tried emailing Al Mar Knives? I'm sure they would be glad to clear things up for you.

"Why make a "fake" of a model that doesn't exist in the first place?"

In Asia and the US, older Al Mar knives are highly collectible.

I must agree its a mean looking push dagger.. I am a huge AL MAR fan! Love the vintage stuff and Mr.Fadden(current owner) designs.. , but unfortunately this is one company who has beat up by fakes... There is a AL MAR pushdagger forsale on gunbroker.com.. search for it.. he wants like 550, but i am sure he would take 450.. I have one and its top quality as all AL MARs are..
Funny thing about the ALIBABA they have a old AL MAR key chain (real one) for 250$, but the fake stuff is like 30$.. Shame. they got fake Chris Reeves and XM Hinderers... very sad

It's a Chinese original
with a trademark infringement.
Item NO: X2876
Overall Length : 16 cm
Blade Length : 10 cm
Blade Thickness : 3.2 mm

Though it looks to have been inspired by a 1996 Benchmade Kuma Zume (Japanese for "Bear Claw").

I am now going to try to help with posts of this kind! There is a ton of mis-information out there. The knife at the top is not my father's design and has nothing to do with our knives from 1978 to 1998. The knife in post #10, though, is a Snubby Push Dagger from our Wild West Series.

RyAnne! I thought you fell off the Earth! Where have you been keeping yourself and what are you doing these days??? Are you still involved with the company in any way?

I met your dad briefly in 1992 at the Spec Ops trade show in Fayetteville NC and got a signed business card, which I still have framed in my mancave. He died much too young... :(

David

Hi David - I was only involved in Gary Fadden's version of the company for a very short time. The good news is, however, that after far too many years, the Mar family is finally returning to the knife industry in 2014. We will be making never-before-seen designs of my father's along with design from other makers. Inventory is being made as we speak at our new shop in CA.
