What is this 'scope:

As seen here.

I've seen one on a rifle used in US military sniper training. I assumed that it was a 'scope/video camera combo used by an instructor to critique a student's sight picture, yet here it is being used operationally.

I have Googled in vain.

I think this is the US army's M24 sniper system. If it is then the rifle is built on a remington 700 action and the scope is a Leopold with a built in range finder.

It is the an M-24 Sniper system with a AN PVS 10 day and night optic.

Thanks for the responses.

I'd looked at, and dismissed, the AN/PVS-10 as a possibility based on this photograph:

...found here. The centre section looks right, but the fore and aft length looked all wrong.

Are the extended ocular and objective lenses removed for daylight operations?

As said thats a AN/PVS-10 in 12.2x, the photo you posted stating that your removing it due to that is a AN/PVS-10 in 8.5x.

Thanks, everyone!

I must get one for my Remington 700...

Good luck on that as your going to be shelling out a pretty penny. The AN/PVS-22 and AN/PVS27 were just released for commercial sale so that might be your best bet for now. I'd shoot a call over to TNVC and ask him what he can do for pricing for you. Honestly though you'd be better off getting a AN/PVS-14 and a weapon mount as it will let you do more, your going to be limited somewhat but you can take it off the rifle and use it a personal device.

Just an FYI your going to be looking at a price tag of 8,000-12,000 for that scope.

Thanks for the info. I was only kidding; now I see that I was really kidding!

The 3-12 x 50 Schmidt & Bender PMII on my Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .308W does everything I need at the moment:

Hows the glass on that? I've wanted a S&B but I had an offer on a used Nightforce that I couldn't refuse. It was beat to hell but the glass was flawless and for $500 I couldn't say much. Coat of paint later its being good to me. Plus the money went to a good person who needed it for some newer gear so I was more then happy to take it off his hands, though it cost me a larue aimpoint mount that he lost earlier...but still $500+ a larue mount is nowhere near the price of a new one.

If your ever going to pickup any NV or thermal talk to TNVC first, they/he is active on arfcom, m4carbine, and other forums and is very helpful...and most importantly if you contact him on one of those forums or call/email and talk to him and mention that your concerned about any flaws in the optic he will check your gear before it ships and if your really nice he sometimes hand picks the best one out of his stock for you :D.

That and pricing is great and they/he have an excellent customer service record. If you ever do end up grabbing anything like I said earlier a PVS14 on a mount would do the job for around $4,000 and last a long time.

Hows the glass on that S & B?

Superb!

I've talked with a gamekeeper over here who has considerable experience of S & B, Nightforce, Leupold, IOR etc., and he tells me it's S & B all the way for him.

I use mine in informal competition out to 1,000 yards.

It's a single-turn, mil-dot reticle graduated in 0.1 Milrad per click, i.e. roughly 1/3" per click.

The mount-ring combo is from Accuracy International and has a 28 MOA slope machined into it.

On an AI sniper rifle, the range drum on the 'scope is a ballistic match for Lapua High Precision Sniper 7.62mm ammo using a 170 grain bullet.

I use a handload with a Lapua 155gr Scenar and Vihtavuori powder.

From what I've been told the glass is second to none, but cash is a limiting factor and no one around where I'm at stocks them for me to look through before purchasing. Good to hear another person giving them a big  so I'll add that to my list of reasons to take a risk and buy one without seeing it first when the time comes.

This review might encourage you to take a closer look at one.

That and the fact that - according to S & B's own advert - in recent trials, the USMC managed to break every 'scope they tested except S & B, so they adopted them!

Buy the best and only cry once.
