Hello. I'm looking for someone who can make a thumb dagger/arrowhead pendant out of 6AL4V Ti. I have a design i made and willing to send it to anyone who is interested. If anyone has any suggestions on who might be able to, i would appreaciate that too. Thanks

it would probably be around 2 inches long and an inch or less wide, at least 1/8" thick.

You mean just as jewelry, right? Because I don't think Ti can be hardened to hold an edge... although I could be completely wrong...

it can be hardened, but only to about mid 40's, IMHO it sucks as a blade material, you'd be much better off using a stainless for an actual knife, this sounds like jewelry though so it'd be fine, and it'd look pretty cool with some nice anodizing

yeah it would mainly serve as a decorative piece but if needs be, as a last ditch weapon in a life-or-death situation, i would like it to have some use other than just looking pretty while it watches me suffer:) It should also have a usuable point that could be used to open plastic packages and such. There really shouldn't be an edge on it.

Just a quick thought. I'm guessing you live in CA. If so, just be aware that you COULD get charged with a felony if the wrong cop found that necklace and it was conceiled. Open carry? No problem.

According to california penal code 653k and 12020-24 A knife with a blade less than 2 inches is exempt from the definations dirk dagger AND switchblade.
So if the thing has a blade less than 2 inches you are fine.
IF you are in california.
Thanks,
Del

haha blasphemy i know

Yes i am in california, and this is a pendant, not a dirk or dagger, i don't think i should have any problem. Its not really going to have an "edge" so to speak. It won't be sharp, and will not be sharpened. It will pretty much be a blunt edge much seen like those on cheap chinese swords. The point it more of what im interested in and even that won't be that sharp.

Just FYI: An edge isn't part of the definition of dirk/dagger. It just has to be useable as a stabbing weapon.

2" blade? I think that's just for folding knives. I looked at the codes again and I can't find any length restriction for fixed blade knives.

Are you serious that he might get in trouble for wearing a pendant like that? I'm not arguing the point (ho ho) I'm just surprised.

He would almost surely not get in trouble. I know I wouldn't bust someone for that... However if you end up in a position where an officer really feels that you're "begging for service" it's good not to give them an excuse for a felony arrest. Would it hold up in court? Maybe not. Would you have to spend a night in jail? Yup. :barf:

I'm just putting this out so that people know the law. Make your own decisions.
