Can anyone match Rough Ryder "bang for the buck"

I don’t buy Chinese knives for the same reason I don’t buy Russian knives - but that’s close enough before getting warned for political talk.

If the price is issue I’d rather save some money or buy used.

Or even better, buy Taiwanese! ❤️

The only knives that I own that aren't USA made are some Opinels, SAKs, and a couple Lionsteel Barlows.

Bang for the Buck:)? Just my opinion, but I have to say Buck knives. Relatively inexpensive for the quality, made in USA, and lifetime, no bs warranty.
Not all Buck knives are made in the USA. Most of their traditional slipjoint patterns are made in China, last time I checked.

I remember seeing that the Chinese made Buck were made in the same factory as RR. That was over a decade ago, so I do not know if that was or still is true.

Some Buck and RR Canoes. The shield shows the Bucks

RR was one of several eye-opening discoveries I made when I first came to BladeForums. (GEC was another). Some were prone to gappy springs, but they always came sharp. There was a noticeable improvement in quality over the years, and I found them to be at least the equal of Case. ,There were a couple I carried, in fact I still pick up one of my old favorites, the improved muskrat. Some of their later finishes are downright gorgeous, nicer than anything I ever got from Case.

I always wondered about their durability. Hard for me to tell, since I don’t use my knives hard or a lot. Reports from this forum are all over the map. I have never had a blade loosen up on me. The few that came with a little side play were easy enough to tighten up with a hammer.

I have not bought a RR in quite a while, more than a year, maybe more. For a long time, I have carried Opinel and Victorinox. Most of my recent purchases have been fixed blades, some of them expensive (for me).

Buck was trying to back out of its Chinese models, last I heard, and return more of that production to the US. Completely off the point, I came across a 303 I had never seen before, gathering dust an crud in a drawer full of sewing stuff, left behind by a woman who was in such a hurry to leave town she left me with two dumpsters (so far) of her pointless accumulations.

I heard that too, but, based on what was posted previously, they still seem to have Chinese made models.

Not unusual for a company to have some offshore production to stay competitive in that market. Those Chinese made Buck are very affordable…unlike many companies (Yeti as an example) who make things offshore and still charge a premium . Buck is still an American company with American workers, that still makes many knives right here in their USA factory as they always have, and they have been mentioned here in this thread only in comparison because they are still a good bang for the buck (no pun intended) :-). The fact that many are still made in the USA, for a reasonable price is just one of the reasons many see them as good bang$, and so that gets mentioned. I struggle to understand why so often some people seem defensive because some others still take pride in and purchase American made products (yes, even sometimes for political reasons) when they are able. To each, their own.

I have only used one rr about 3 years ago,the twang sound when I closed it sounded tinny,it could of been just the one I had tried but the fact that at that time they cost about $75.00 dollars canadian including shipping which was more expensive than I could buy a case which were for sale in canada I just moved on.
