Does Michael Moore prefer boxers or briefs :p  ;) Kidding aside, can anyone recommend a decent free pop up blocker that I could download. Ive been having a horrible time with pop ups lately. I tried using the earthlink pop up blocker, but the thing was useless, and would only block pop ups to legitimate sites, whereas every add continued to pop up. I have a feeling there is some evil pop up program on my computer, but Adaware, and various virus scans arent finding it. Any help appreciated.

Google has a toolbar that you can add to Internet Explorer that has a popup blocker. It's free HERE

I agree with Fabulous45s. if you dont mind paying for it, Stopzilla is a great one.

Fed this is the one I have and it's never failed nor ever given me any trouble!

Edit:
Go to the download page and scroll down for the free edition. I didn't take time to see what else they had but I'm going back to see if they have anything else I might need or want.:D

You might try and run spy-bot and adaware. Many popups are requested by adware or spyware that is already on your computer. One way to get rid of it is to run either or both of these. I've had good luck with them.

edit: or stop using internet explorer. Great way to avoid all popups.

I agree with ddean, Opera is a very good browser. Much better than MS Explorer or (AOL's) Netscape Navigator. Anything not big corporate, is an improvement.
Or, get a Mac, and run OS X. Everything you need is included. Plus, it's UNIX based and very stable. I guess I'm sounding like a broken record on this subject, but I've been in this game since DOS 2.0 and Windows 286, so I just might have some perspective on the subject. :p

BriChi- you remember COBOL? I think it was 1979 and we were using mainframes.

Incidentallly Texas Instruments calculators got me thru Statistics.

As others have mentioned: Opera and Mozilla (formerly Netscape Navigator) are excellent options. Occasionally, Opera will display a page incorrectly. Of course, there's some indication that Microsoft-owned websites deliberately serve bad pages (put that in your google and smoke it...).

These days, I've been sticking to Mozilla. It comes with a very nice email client with built-in spam filter. Free, too.

Ditto on TI.

Punch cards with Fortran!

You can also goof around with your settings. Turning off Javascript stuff disables a lot of pop up stuff for me. Though Internet Explorer is confusing to go through.

Thank you all for the good help. Got the panicware up and running, and Ive finally can surf for more than a minute without a pop up. Once again many thanks.

...Punch cards with Fortran!...

I was writing Fortran programs for an IBM 1410 in 1965. I used a hand truck to haul around my boxes of punch cards. Today I have memory cards as big as a postage stamp that hold as much data as a whole warehouse full of punch cards.

Time to make you guys feel old. My networking teacher talks about how when he was in college and had to write out his code, have it "punched", hauled to the "main" computer or the terminal on campus that could read pucnh cards (he said that there was one "large" computer down town that many terminals were all hooked up to), input, run overnight, come back in the morning only to find out that the code didn't work due to a typo.
