Can anyone tell me about this brown damascus? (M. Strider)

Oh yeah mate! Both companies make quality knives, but I chose the spydie Resilience over the military, because ...no "choil" lol

It gets to be funny like you said, all that handle and choil what is left to cut with sometimes! :)

I make exceptions for great designs, the para2 and manix 2 are some of my all time favs for knifedom.

The thing with striders, besides the scumbagery, is they have a like a double choil, unlike spydercos that have just a finder choil. Striders have a finger choil and then another sharpening/plunge choil that is totally unnecessary and an unacceptable waste of blade length IMO.

Yeah man, visually it looks good, but in cutting not so much!

I personally find the Strider profile, specifically the SMF, to be extremely useful.

I’ve carried an SMF in my bunker gear pocket and on medical calls for years off and on. I can tell you a very large handle and small relative blade size work well when wearing large gloves. Try using a 940 or Paramilitary 2 with welding gloves and you’ll see what I mean. The wide handle is easy to grab and it makes it easy to control the small cutting edge in tight situations like cutting clothes off trauma patients or working in zero visibility in a fire. The last thing I want is to try to control a 4” cutting edge when I can’t see my hands and accidentally cut my gloves or someone else’s gear open. This isn’t conjecture or theorizing, I have literally been in these situations and used my SMF to try to save people’s lives.

The design just works for me, regardless of anything else. I’m not saying Striders are the only knives that work in that situation or that they are even the best, but they absolutely work in real world situations extremely well.
