Hello! I am new here and have been searching for some answers. I'm a casual knife collector and have a decent layman's knowledge of knives. Recently, my grandmother living in Italy sent me a couple knives and she sent me one that I have no clue as to what it is. It folds, is single edged. and is razor sharp. It has some sort of weird, "ring lock" mechanism for opening, in that you have to pull back the metal backing to allow the mechanism to work. It has a small gecko insignia on the blade, which has a rounded spine instead of a double edge. I've been told it's a letter opener, but not once have I found another letter opener that looked like this, or was as capable of doing some real damage. You can find a picture of it here:

Any help/experience is appreciated and I look forward to posting in this community more as my blade knowledge and collection grows. Thank you!

It looks like it has a ring lock. Not unusual in older European knives. The Okapi, popular in South Africa, has models that look and work like that.

I can't tell you much, it's really hard to tell from the photo. However I can tell you that your knife has a very strong resemblance to the "coltelli artigianali romano". I'm very new to this whole knife hobby so it may be a dead lead. You can look into it if you want, though.
