Can displaying folding knives long-term half-open affect them?

I spoke with a Case engineer, eye to eye this morning. She said, “Two things will change a spring. Use or tamper with the heat treat. When you bring a knife out of storage or display, give it a drop of oil, before you move the blade.”
Thats her story, and I’m stickin’ to it.
