Can DLC be re-treated?

I have obtained a rather special knife that has a DLC coated blade. Unfortunately there are some slight scratch marks, some of which show a little bright metal through the coating.

Can the DLC coating be stripped and re applied with out any harm to the blade itself? I realise the cutting edges will need to be re-sharpened.

The knife in question is a Maringer Vorpal Haiku so is quite special but in this case the blade can be completely seperated from the handle.

dlc is really difficult to get through, you sure the lines aren't from whatever you cut? my zt350 had silver lines from an aluminum can I cut way back when, they came off with a little bit of a wash.

Has anyone ever tried Acetone on DLC removal.I have a Cold Steel mini recon but am happy with the DLC coating. It seems a lot of people have had to really work at getting it removed with considerable elbow grease .There must be an easier way with using chemicals of some sort

I deliberately put my 0350 against a wire wheel on a bench grinder. Multiple times. Still barely noticeable. Dlc is some hard stuff.

Op, yes it can be re-applied but you will need to know what steel and the current hardness to make sure it can handle the processing Temps which, in most cases is around 400f.

Acetone won't touch dlc, it will clean it but that's it.

Cheers for the answers guys, it may be difficult after all. The steel is D2 and I'm not sure of the hardness but will guess at around 60HRC.
