I agree that it can damage, yet I too employ the method of flicking it just enough to GENTLY click it into place. Quieter and smoother IMO. I just can't STAND it when I let someone see one of my knives and they pull the "Macho Super Flip" that seems to require the use of the WHOLE arm to maximize the amount of testosterone released with the LOUD CLICK followed by a triumphant nod as if it is a testimony of quality...
