Hey guys. I have a bowie knife and the blade is 6 inches, would it be legal to carry this in public if it is on my belt where people can see it? I live in Missouri by the way.
Yes. Missouri State law only contains provisions that make concealed carry illegal for certain types of knife. There are no restrictions at the state level on open carry for any sort of knife that you can legally own.
571.030. 1. A person commits the crime of unlawful use of weapons if he or she knowingly:
(1) Carries concealed upon or about his or her person a knife, a firearm, a blackjack or any other weapon readily capable of lethal use; or
(12) "Knife", any dagger, dirk, stiletto, or bladed hand instrument that is readily capable of inflicting serious physical injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person. For purposes of this chapter, "knife" does not include any ordinary pocketknife with no blade more than four inches in length;
The question is, are you planning on carrying it in the woods/hiking/camping? Or were you planning on carrying it around going grocery shopping or going to the mall? If it's the first one, nobody is going to hassle you for it or even give you a 2nd look as long as it's legal. But if you were carrying it around while walking through the shopping mall, you might get some unwanted attention.
I'm sure you would get some looks from people. If that doesn't bother you, by all means carry a bowie knife.
