I love my XM-18.. and not to be rude... but I really think that the G-10 scales included on the hinderer are all very bland. I do not like the texture pattern and I have 3 scales and do not like any of them.

I love the TI-side lock bar side of the hinderer.... it looks awesome and really means business. Then I turn it over to the other side and it looks like a piece of plastic handle with a blade sticking out of it... doesn't look like a top quality knife at all on that side.. even though we all know it is and it feels great in the hand. (But this is just my opinion so please don't flame me...)

Is there any way I can get a TI-Slab made for the other side of the knife? That would be incredible and the knife would then look great on both sides. Or perhaps a textured G-10 or micarta slab.. kind of like a busse?

I would really prefer the TI slab though as I can make the G-10 or Micarta myself.. but the TI would be the ultimate..

You can get what you want made. Just don't post a picture of it here.

I would like to point you in the right direction, but the owner of this forum prefers not to have any non OEM chat/posts here. I suggest you re-post on the general forum so I and others can share what we have done.

Well.. I am really asking here on the Hinderer forums because I saw the post he made about him making money from making slabs so I wanted to give him first dibs for a custom TI slab.. if not then I do not want to be disrespectful and have other people posting here that they can do it for me. But if he is not able to make me a TI slab then can other people please P.M. me or E-mail me so that we can discuss how to get this done. Please do not reply to this thread if you can make them.. just send me P.M. I do not want to disrespect him and the rules he has on here.

Rick has made very few Ti scales, they all came on custom knives. All the ones i've seen were heat anno'd. I've been bugging Rob for sometime to talk Rick into a tumbled Ti scale.

I had one made on another forum that turned out really well.

Rick has stated that he is going to be making some ti scales along with micarta in the coming months. They will be on a limited basis and not a regular option.

To vibastige, Rick has addressed the issue and either respect it or get the $@€¥ out. He is the one paying to have a subforum here and can set the rules. He and Rob are two of the best in The business so show some respect.

Does this mean that he will be selling the scales only.. or are the scales going to be on limited edition XM-18's? It was about impossible to find the XM-18 which I have right now.. I doubt I could get a limited edition knife with TI-Scales.

If you are just talking about scales them selves... then where can I sign up?

I bought carbon fiber scales (textured and smooth) from Rick for all my XMs and they look great!

I am not a fan of the textured scales... but I do like sculpted scales. My ultimate goal would be to get the other side TI though.... so it would be a full TI handle.

Scales will be sold separately, no sign up list just need to watch for Rob to post them. Don't expect them anytime soon though they have a few other projects now but will be hard at work this winter with the last show this weekend until June.

From what I heard any kinds of custom slabs (g10 or ti) thats not made by hinderer knives which will void your warranty on the entire knife.

Please be extra careful before you decide to switch the slabs!!

Warranty void for a slab?... not my rules.. but that seems a little extreme considering it is only a piece of bonded resin that has nothing to do with how the knife functions, just how it looks. Oh well.. guess if it came to it I will not say whether or not I made my own custom slab and I have 3 stock slabs that I can put on at any time. There is no real way to enforce this decision.

I would really prefer a TI slab made by the company themselves. Hopefully I can get an answer soon. I saw they posted to that custom slab thread and shut that down pretty quickly.. perhaps they will answer my post quickly. Does anyone have their e-mail or contact info to find a definitive answer on this?

Just send Rob a PM or email. He will get back to you quickly I'm sure.

From the sticky at the top of the subforum.

As long as Rick's breathing we will warranty at no cost to you, any material defects or workmanship on all of our products. Normal wear and tear issues like stripped screws, worn and scratched finishes, bent clips, blade wear, etc will fall under refurbishing. We also will not do warranty work on "pimped" or altered knives. So if you have changed the fasteners, drilled any holes, interchanged parts between knives, installed parts that did not come from our shop including scales, touched the knife with a file, sandpaper, dremel tool, or had it reground then your warranty is void. We also do not cover lost parts like, screws, clips, Lock Bar Stabilizers, etc. If you lost a part, replacements are not free. If you take your knife apart and can't get it back together correctly, this is not a warranty issue and you will be charged if you send it to us to reassemble it.

Ok thanks for pointing me in the right direction.. I did not see the sticky. So if I hand rub my blade with 1000 grit sand paper my warranty is void? (note I would not touch the area where the pivot is nor the tang where it locks at) Mine is bead blasted and it is showing scratches with any kind of use.. so I figure once the blade looks like crap I could just hand rub a satin finish on it. Guess not...:(.. but it is what it is. After hard use it is going to show a ton of scratches any ways, which is all sand paper is going to do on the working part of the blade....

EDIT: But... all is fair because he does run a small business and I guess this will throw the guess work out of trying to figure whether or not the custom work messed up the knife or not.

I understand the tenor of the above statement, but in all fairness to Rick, Rob, and the company, I think whether something is a warranty issue or not, whether it is something that voids the warranty or not, is taken on a case by case basis.

IIRC, one or two folks recently had an issue with a screw backing out and getting lost. Didn't the folks for whom that happened get a whole set of the new screws free of charge? How do we know these folks didn't remove the screws, then put them back on incorrectly ultimately resulting in a screw backing out and becoming lost? I'm not saying that happened, but only that reality may not be as black and white as the statement above.

We do have plans to make some titanium scales, but I do not have a time frame. I assure you the forums will be the first to know though.

Thank you for bringing some common sense in.

You are correct, it is very difficult to enforce against people with no integrity.
