Can I reheat treat O1?

I made a rather large blade from O1. The tang warped a bit during the quench.
After tempering I was trying to straiten out the tang and it snapped clean off, leaving about 1/2. I was going to regrind a new tang and I was wondering if I could reheat treat the blade after grinding or take it slow and grind it and try not to mess up the temper.

It certainly could be re-heat treated but a slow grind would save you the trouble.
You could heat to 1200 F for about two hours [subcritical anneal] before grinding then re-heat treat.

mete', in the case of a subcritical anneal at 1200° to 1250°, would there be any decarb?

you could also weld on a stick tang and make it a hidded through tang. does reguire some good welding skills so you have a strong weld. I know its common to weld on a tang when the blade is damascus as you never see it under the handle.
