Can I see some Hinderer XM-18's?

Nice knives! I have been on a waiting list for over a year. I refuse to pay the crazy markup that people are selling at.

The tan colored on has a different blade than most I have seen. What do they call the other one..spanto..??...

What does Rick call the grind on your tan one?

The blue/balck one is his traditional Spanto ground. The tan one is referred to as a spear point I think.

As far as the differences between all the generations, Jaxx nailed it

Yeah even if you are at blade there are no gurantees to buy one.

It is a shame the people that go to the lottery are just there to make some cash off their winnings. Some bring kids , wifes, girlfirends, friends with no interest in kinves just to get more tickets to increase their chance to win. Then they sell them off at a premium at the show and online.

One guy appraoched me with a XM-18 that he just paid $385 for and asked $700.

I forgot about these pics I took, comparing a gen2 to a gen 3:

About pricing for XM-18's, that could be a whole other thread really. I could see getting pissed at someone trying to flip a knife and immediately trying to get a $300 profit. But, not every XM-18 seller is out to do that. For example, if you buy one from a store, sometimes there will be a $100 markup plus shipping. If the buyer then decides to sell it because they don't like it or need money, add in paypal fees and shipping back out after the resale, and the price could easily be $550 or so without any "profit" to the original buyer. Then if the knife gets flipped again, add in more fees for shipping and so on.

I just recently learned about Hinderers. Can someone tell me how much I can expect to pay for a black Gen III?

Am I correct in assuming that the only options available to buyers is flip/non-flip, color, blade (tumble/bead blast/satin), and size (3.5" vs 3")?

Also, is the cost generally the same regardless of the configuration (not considering customs)?

Thanks!

Hi austinguy23, welcome to the forum:)

The MSRP is $385 before shipping costs. Many online stores sell them for more. I bought a Gen 3 from Plaza Cutlery a while back and they were kind enough to just charge the MSRP. I'd say the average price for a Gen 3 on the secondary market will be between $475-$550 and they can get up to $650 on the high end.

Basically, yes. I've seen some full custom Gen 3s get slightly different finishes on the blades like a two tone finish. But for the most part you're right.

From an MSRP standpoint, yes. On the secondary market, it might vary slightly depending on supply and demand. For instance I think there might be a slightly higher demand for the 3" bladed XM-18s. They don't tend to show up as often and get snatched up fairly quickly. That's not to say that they for sure demand a higher price in general, but they might every so often. They definitely sell fast.

Thanks, it's cool to join such a resourceful forum! Your feedback is really helpful. After hearing so many negative things about the Strider founders (confirmed by link below), I think I'm going to go the Hinderer route instead of supporting the Strider punks.

Strider's are good and Hinderer's are good. Both makers stand behind the products!

Pick based on what product you like, not on what you have heard. I EDC a Strider SMF and an XM-18 and they are both equally loved :)
