Can I unregister Half-Life 2?

Recently bought Half-Life 2, and after jumping through all the hoops and finally being able to play a simple freakin' game, it sucks badly.

Can I somehow unregister the game so I can try to sell it?

TIA

No. . . You could sell it to a friend but he would have to use your Steam account.

What dont you like about the game? I thought it was fun, great graphics too.

Registering the game just insures that you don't have a pirated copy. You can sell the game as long as the CD code matches the disc you are playing. The buyer should not have a problem playing the game. I never register my games.

Valve requires you to register via their program "Steam" in order to play the game, it is their anti-piracy idea, and a pain in the "butt". You have to connect to the game(s) via steam, there isnt another option.

So, unless you tell the person who buys it your account name and password, they will have to buy their own copy of the game via steam to play it.

Gabe Newell, the brains behind Valve, is a member of this forum. Hopefully he sees this thread and pops in to comment.

Yes, Half-Life 2 is the very last valve software I ever buy, for any reason.
I'm not creating some on-line account and jumping through as many hoops as I had to jump through just to play some game.
And now, after finding out how bad it sucks, I can't sell it or return it either.

The graphics were fine, but the gameplay did not suit me at all.

What about the gameplay didn't suit you?

I know some people have had problems getting it to work with steam but when it does I found it a good game. I loved the physics engine in it and the gravity gun :)

Hehe- I liked it so much I went out and got a copy of the original, which I had never played. Now, while waiting for the Christmas flood of new games to appear, I started a new game of HL2.
I'd say it was one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. Superb graphics, great voice-acting, a nice mix of puzzles and violence, and all sorts of little hidden goodies to look for.

As for Valve/Steam...No problems whatever. Just plugged in the CDs, created an account, and was playing in no time.

Waiting for the Lost Coast (or whatever) add-on to appear.

HL2 as a game is just the bomb. Definetly a new standard. Logging on to Steam to play it though just sucks. :thumbdn: I won't be buying any future games that this is a requirement unless I can use the existing Steam account I was forced to set up already. There has got to be a better way.

Once you create a steam account you use if for everything they make, even old games, pretty simple process, it does take 10 min but hey I paid for the game why should some thief be able to download and play it for free, I'm for anti-theft measures.

I was too, until their recent "update" created a million problems and made it so I couldnt even play the game for a week. That turned me off to the whole idea.

If you like 1PS and hate on line nerds jumping around like kangaroo's on crack. Get Call of Duty, United Offensive and download the German Front mod for it. Realistic damage, you can bleed out. Its not run and gun, shell shock, iron sights only, in short, it kicks ass :)

I've been playing the Forgotten Hope mod for BF1942 for some time now. This is a "realism" mod, with as many of the arcade elements of BF removed as possible.
Shortly the developers will release the nearly-finished "final" version of FH, and then go on to developing the game using the new BF2 engine.

Battlefield 2 has a lot of promise, but the game as issued had serious problems. EA just issued a new patch which corrected some of these, but it remains pretty much an arcade effort in contemporary military drag.

Already a number of more realistic mods are in development; I'm willing to wait for the talented lads at FH to come up with theirs.

Wow  too bad you didnt like HL2 , IMO one of the best FPS ever , the original HL as well , no other game period has had as many community made free game mods to play , ever. UT doesnt even begin to come close in number of great mods , and yea DoD is an awesome game.
The single thing I dont like , like some of you is , Steam.
If you are without , or lose your ISP you cannot play your game and , that sucks big time. They could have figured out another way without resorting to stupid Steam. Not only that but if for whatever reason Steam is offline you cant play the game you paid for.
IMO HL2 rocks , great graphics and storyline but , Steam = :thumbdn: :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

Half Life was a really fun game once it started working. But it was a pain in the neck to get running in almost every way. I know most people got it to work without major problems.

There are other games out there though, and I usually play a single game online for a long time. Right now I am still playing Far Cry, although there aren't so many multiplayer games any more so I will have to move on to something else soon. It's too bad, because the engine and the map editor have huge potential. If anyone doesn't have Far Cry yet, it's a really fun game and less than $20 now. The single player game is plenty long but not boring.

My next game definitely won't be from Valve, but every company has issues sometimes so maybe two games down the road I will look at their stuff again.

DoD rocks...I had originaly bought counter-strike but i really dont like that game. It just doesnt work to well on my computer. Half-life was good however. I havent played the second one yet but I suppose I will sometime down the road.

The gameplay was just too cumbersome for me. I regularly play UT99 on-line, and am now playing Myst V, after uninstalling HL2.

Speaking of UT, UT99 is great, but UT 2003/2004 were also very cumbersome for play. Great graphics, but I like light responsive play better than graphics, especially for 1PS's.

HALO now, that was light & responsive, with great graphics. And if I remember correctly, Splinter Cell was also.
You can sometimes get the great graphics with good gameplay, but it does seem to be a bit of a rarity.

What sort of problems did you have with the "bad" ones? If your video card is inadequate in certain ways, the game will run perfectly smooth but kind of sluggish looking because the video is delayed. That makes it hard to aim and move around accurately. I had an ATI-based card with lots of memory but an old processor, and this was especially bad. You can fix it by changing the resolution or other video settings.
