I'm not a gamer, but the only games I've really enjoyed are:
Wolfenstein 3D
Duke Nukem 3D
DOOM
Half-Life
Half-Life 2
When I got Half-Life 7 years ago I'll never forget sitting at the computer watching the monorail make its 10 minute drive to the Research Facility entrance and having a churning feeling of fear in my stomach that some baddies were going to break through the bus windows and kill me as I sat there without any guns. Nice build-up, great game
Of course, as a 10-year-old I gave up on trying to go through the whole game and decided to just use cheat codes to get weapons, God mode, and no clip mode at the beginning so my friends and I could kill the scientists and security guards.
"What is that smell?"
"It's only a fleshwound...I can keep going!"
"AHHHHHH!"
The only problem I've had with them is that I could never get controllers to work on Half-Life, but now that I've "seen the light" with the keyboard and mouse, I haven't even tried it on the second one. I can't say I've ever had graphics problems either, compared to Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune II the HL series was the least flakey in graphics.
