Can I use dishwasher soap to clean my sunglasses lenses?

I hear you about not wanting to scratch your MauiJims. I've been wearing Maui Jim's for 15-years and am a bitch about my sunglasses. Best advice i got was from an optometrist as follows

1) Never never use your t-shirt. No matter how tempted, don't do it..
2) Use plenty of water (warm if you got it) and plenty of it. Idea is to flush dirt so you dont grind it into the lens. Use liquid type soap w/o moisturizers. The moisturizers will put an oily slick and film.
3) Like the others suggested use a microfiber like that from 3M (i found at Walmart optometrist section.)
4). Dry with microfiber cloth by wiping as lightly as you can. All you're trying to do is soak up the water and wipe lens clean.
5) Store said microfiber in your MJ case and use that and only that. When done keep cloth in your case to protect from dirt.
6) I keep an eyeglass cleaner solution in the car and helpful when you don't have access to soap&water. Squirt liberally, like 4-pumps on interior, 4-pumps on exterior for each of the lenses. Idea is to flush dirt/oil before wiping. And don't grind the lens with the cloth- just enough to soak up the liquid and wipe dry.

Sounds anal, but I am when it comes to my MJ's. Heaven knows they're freaking expensive. Oh, and contact the factory when you need lens replacement. They'll hook you up with a new pair for $60 as part of their customer service satisfaction coverage....even when the warranty is up. Best damned eyewear company in the world. I wouldnt consider anything else.

I use the spray bottles of glasses or lens cleaner that you can buy at the optical places or Walmart optical. I buy the tissues from Lens Crafters which do not have any solution on them. I keep a few in a zip lock bag and a small bottle of the spray in my vehicle.

I try to flush off any large particles with water first. I don't want to grind it into the lens with a cloth.

Using paper towels is a last resort. I will sometimes use a cotton tea shirt if it is clean (like the one I might be wearing).

The Zeiss lens wipes in the individual packages (wetted) are okay, but I prefer the larger tissues mentioned above.
