I ve found myself looking at SOLD knives lately and I ll get excited and then notice that they re sold!! Isnt the seller supposed to close the thread when it is sold?! Pretty annoying actually! Not exactly sure of the rule on this one?

Questions such as this belong in Service & Support, BTW.

Since people help keep this site open by purchasing memberships that enable them to sell here we leave that up to the individual selling.

I was going to ask this same question, maybe with a little more tact, before I saw this post.

I know that it is optional for sellers to close the thread per the current exchange forum rules, and Bastid, I understand your point but I have also found it difficult when searching for knives to distinguish what is available and what is not (at a quick glance).

I am not a paying member and I'm not suggesting that rules be changed for my benefit. On the contrary, I think that closing threads after the item(s) is sold would benefit paying members too because it will allow everyone to quickly know which knives are still available and will direct traffic to the still available items. It might also cut down on members being tempted to repost knives within the first 2 weeks because even if their item gets pushed back to page 10 for example, viewers can quickly and easily determine whether the knife is still available by glancing at the status of the thread.

Again, I realize this topic has probably been discussed in the past by the owner and moderators but I just thought I would respectfully give my opinion.

Thank you.

I cant tell you guys enough how annoying it is to browse through the exchange section, find something id like to grab and then see "sold"! Can we please get into the habit of closing your thread once your item is sold?! I cant be the only member that this is driving crazy. Please kind fellow members just close your thread!!! Im trying to spend money and help you guys out! Please! Does this belong in whine and cheese? Sry wasnt sure? :)

This is the officail word from the exchange forum rules:

SECTION 3 - Rules for Sellers / Traders / Service Providers (hereafter referred to as "Sellers"):

1.Rules for everyone:

13.Please indicate in the original post after the item has been sold or traded. It'd be nice if you locked the thread too.

I wish folks would leave the sale price too. It's nice to have a ballpark figure if you are selling or buying in the future.

Is there a way to clean up the whole exchange? There are so many old, sold knives that are still listed! I ll spend minutes looking at a knife just to discover it has been sold and the thread hasnt been locked! It has gotten to the point that im going to start checking out other forums as I ve heard some of the others are better managed. I love BF but it drives me freaking crazy!!!

PEOPLE PLEASE CLEAN UP YOUR OLD POSTS AND LOCK THEM! WE DONT CARE WHAT YOU SOLD! YOU USED BF AS A TOOL FOR PROFIT, NOW RESPECT BF AND CLEAN UP YOUR OLD CRAP!! THANK YOU!! OH AND MERRY XMAS!! ANYMORE EGG NOG?? :)

I agree that people should close their threads after they've sold their stuff, to avoid confusion. I am probably guilty of not doing so, but hopefully I did better the last few times.

No egg nog for me, but thanks!

How do we get this to like Spark or a super mod!???

Do you think they can't see the rant already?

If you see the knife says "SOLD" in the listing, what is the big deal? Move onto the next thread. The Exchange rules don't require that a person lock their sale thread, nor does it require a person leave the original selling price. I might be missing the point here, but I just don't see the necessity, nor understand the urgency if you can already see the items listed as sold.

Not even all items are listed as sold, I prefer a locked thread since it takes a gold membership or better to post in FS threads.

<shrugs> I like looking anyways, regardless of if the knives are sold...

that said, most people mark the item sold where the price should be or thereabouts...so no big deal to me if i see something i like and then "oops, it already sold".

Either way I still get to look at some pretty cool knives...
