Okay...miter boxes and hardwoods don't mix. Waste of $13, but oh well!

Live and learn. Anyway, I have some blocks of wood I would like to be cut into scales. They need to be fairly smooth on the cut edges so not a whole lot of hand sanding has to be done to get them flat. I thought my fiance's dad has a bandsaw, but I was wrong.
I have several blocks of koa, one block of cocobolo, some stuff that is supposed to be desert ironwood. I would like scales cut in thicknesses from 1/8" to 1/4". I would be willing to pay in three ways: 1) MOney- I have very little of this.
2) Sheaths- I make custom sheaths and would be willing to contract a couple out.
3) Wood- you could keep some scales for yourself from the wood I send.
Anyway, whatever works. I just know I can't cut the stuff here properly, so if there are any takers, then please let me know!

Want the easy answer that gets the job done correctly?

Call the local high schools that have woodshops. The instuctors are always hurting for materials. If you donate a little lumber they will spend a class showing the students how to resaw your wood to whatever dimensions you request. The work will be done on good equipment, with expert supervision.

Good for the school, good for the students, good for the instructor and good for you.

Everybody wins!

George, Toronto is pretty darn far for me to travel to! I wish! OlyWa, the high school idea is a great idea, but I don't have enough material to make it worth their while. If I did that would be the route to go! L6, I'll be in touch...
