Somebody posted this pic and I think the knife is gorgeous, what is it?

It looks like a Navigator II with an abalone overlay. Not sure who did the overlay, but it looks well done.

Well that was fast. Discontinued, that's why I couldn't find it. And the handle is a custom job, guess that probably puts it out of my price range :(

It also looks like it has the notch on the spine behind the hole that indicates it was a factory second.

Is there anything currently available that is similar? (relatively small blade with a decent handle)

Absolutely! The Spyderco Lava and the Spyderco Dragonfly. I own all three (Navigator 2 included), and of the three, the Lava has what I consider the best grip (Chad really knows what he's doing), but the Dragonfly and Navigator 2 are great as well. Good luck!:)

P.S. You also may want to check out the Spyderco Cricket.;)

Because you can get a factory second a lot cheaper. If it was a cosmetic defect of the handle that made it a second, a custom abalone scale would cover the defect, effectively correcting the problem that made it a second.

On the other had, the blade could have gotten notched like that when the custom work was done.

The notch in the picture is on the left side, normally the factory does the notch on the right side. I'm not sure that this is a factory 2nd.

Was thinking the same thing Peter, all the ones I've ever seen on folders were on the other side. As for finding one, seeing that it's the serrated version, John F Jensen still has a bunch of them.
