Can somebody please tell me what kind of knife this is?

Looks like a modified Rod Chappel design...

It was not a good deal for $10. I would get my money back.

Yup, I'd have to go with Rat on this one here..

But, I digress. First off Welcome to the forum. :)

Second, yes it is a Chinese mass produced POS and wasn't worth $10.00 USD when it was new and unused, let alone its current condition.. If I was you, I'd go back to my so-called pal and ask for you money back. Then save all your money a little longer and in the meantime lurk and read and ask questions in here and educate yourself and prepare for a good quality blade you can be proud of and not have to worry that it is unsafe and may fail the first time you use it.

Good Luck.

I agree, but it is worth a couple bucks, if for nothing else, to use as a "toss-away" knife, or a knife to leave in the trunk of your vehicle for those "just in-case" times.

You know what? It's $10.00. The knife's not worth that, but it's also not worth going back to the guy and demanding a refund over such a small amount. In the future take the time to learn what is and what isn't a good value in knives. There are $10.00 knives that are pretty darn good. There are knives you can get for $30.00 to $50.00 that are very good, such as the Buck 110, Kershaw Leek and Spyderco Delica or Native. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a darn good knife.
