At the moment Amazon's dropped the price of the Becker BK2 from $70 to $64, free shipping included. It's a good price as far as I'm concerned.

But what exactly can the BK2 well that sets it apart from the others in the Becker line? If you're not setting out to collect the entire line of Becker knives, what does this sharpened prybar do well that warrants its ownership when you have the BK7 and BK9?

Well as far as batonning is concerned, the wood basically falls apart when presented with the Almighty 2. It really works that well at batonning. It works great for turning really big sticks into really tiny sticks, and is still useful for doing small knife tasks. And as was said on the Bushcraft USA forum, if it ever goes dull you can always beat someone to death with it if need be.
Its a hefty knife, but it will last FOREVER in all uses.

The two is a great all around knife... It isn't the best at any job (except maybe batoning) but it does every job well. I have the 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 16 and can honestly say that the 2 is my go to knife for most jobs... The edge retention is isane the handles are very comfortable and in my honest opinion if i could only have 1 knife with me when the world goes sideways it would be the 2 .... Other knives in the line do specific jobs better and are great at them but if you want a blade that can cover all the bases then the bk2 is the way to go... Spend some time with it and learn to adjust techniques and mindset and there isn't much you can't do with it

I have most of the Becker lineup as well.
If I could only have one for the rest of my life, it would be the BK2.

Here are a couple of posts I've made over the years about this very subject.

They are no-nonsense knives that keep going long past the point you have given up. They take tremendous amounts of abuse and keep asking for more, and they do it with a price tag that doesn't put a hurt on your wallet or a wife at your throat. They're unassuming, sexy, sleek pieces of sharpened steel that scream to the neanderthal inside each of us that is drowning in a world of politically correct touchy-feely garbage and make you want to go out, hunt something, kill it, and cook it over a fire you made with your own two hands, demanding the gods notice you and proclaiming to any and all that you are not just male but A MAN. They are the epitome of tools in a package that caters to all needs and tastes. The wow is that once you get the first one in your hand, once you pull it out of that black and tan box and feel the edge and get a good grip on the handle and grin maniacally as you wave it first right, then left, the right, then left again, grin growing by the second, that wow factor is that once you get that Becker knife in hand, you don't own it...

It owns you.

BK2. Didn't read post, but given the title I assume it was either "What should I get next?" or "If you only had to have 1 Becker..."

BK2. Answer is always BK2.

"My wife is cheating on me, what should I do?" = BK2

"My car broke down, how do I fix it?" = BK2

"I don't know how to read!" = BK2

EDIT:

After having gone back to actually read the post, it appears I was right. To more fully comply with the intent of the OP, here are my three supporting reasons for my choice.

1. B

2. K

3. 2

All the reason you need really. BK2!!!

BK2 is a fine choice. Every other knife will look tiny and weak next to it for awhile though, so be ready for that.

It is a common misconception that Ethan designed the BK2. In all honesty, it was designed and forged by Zeus himself atop Mt. Olympus, and handed down to Ethan to share with the rest of man so that we could tame this wild world we call Earth.

Convince you? At this point I think we need to get you some psychological help to be honest. Convince? Why would we do that? I mean if an award winning design, sexy looks, capability that rivals some of the best knives ever made, a ridiculously awesome warranty, resale value that won't budge, and the ability to shave a baby doesn't get your panties moist, you got problems. Saint Peter is putting a check next to your name on a line that reads "Doesn't own a BK5" and honestly, that is not a box you want checked. What you should be asking is for us not to kick you off the island since you don't own one. But you know what, we will let it slide. This time. We can see how you might have overlooked getting one. Happens to the best of us. I mean you have been here awhile, and god knows there are a million and one knives on this site, so it is forgivable to neglect getting some of the best ones. You go buy one and we will forget all about it and we won't bring up again. Go on now, and get that expedited shipping so we can put this all behind us. ;)

Honestly, it could be worse. You coulda told us you don't have a BK2.

Compromise? We don't do compromise here in Becker town. You want slicin? We got that. You want to beat a tree down? Yeah, that's right, beat it down, not cut it, we got that too. You want to make a hole in a cinder block cause it looked at your lady wrong? BK2 has that covered in spades. And sharp? How many knives you know can cut an olive into 27 slices? This isn't the last knife you buy for awhile, this is the last knife you need to buy ever. Earn it's keep? This thing is enough to earn your keep, not just it's own. Fill out the proper paperwork and this thing can legally go to work for you, but watch out, if you are married, the missus might get some ideas, this guy earns, and looks good doing it.

Cut, chop, pry, hammer, drill, you name it, this thing does it well. It is by far one of the best all around knives you are ever going to get.

You don't like it? Any one of us will buy it off you. I would even pay the full price and the shipping. Go get one.

If they made a mini BK2 rail attachment you wouldn't even have to pull the trigger. You just point the pistol in the general direction and the BK2 would read your mind, find the target, and desentigrate it immediately. It would be called the "Chuck Norris" attachment.

There's the problem. They tried to make a smaller BK2, but when they came in the next day, all the tooling was full size. They tried a couple different times, but apparently some force greater than them was having no part of them messing with perfection.

BK2: Ass-whuppery, Kitchen-cookery, and Buick demolition.

That's all I got at the moment.

Wasn't me, but I think someone here (Tuffthumbz maybe?) used his BK2 to pry open his car door to unlock it after getting the keys locked inside. That is pretty hardcore in my book.

Because "Leave the gun, take the cannoli" might work for Sicilians, but here it's, "Leave the cannoli, take the BK2!"

Unless you really abuse a knife a lot or forsee the world ending, I don't see much that the BK-2 can do better than the BK-7 except baton and perhaps chop. I seldom baton a knife. If I know I am going to be chopping, I will bring a machete. But for limited chopping, you can get by with the BK-7, and certainly the BK-9 is good for this task.

The BK-2 was my first Becker designed knife. I bought it because of all the talk on the forums without ever handling one. I did the same thing with the ESEE 4. When everything is said and done, I use my SAK a lot more than any fixed blade and the small fixed blades are very useful in the woods without the clumsey factor or weight.

A couple years ago, the answer was or seemed to be BK-2. Now the answer seems to be BK-16 or BK-17.

this is just awesome, LOL

Also, the BK2 sells itself, it doesn't really need the BeckerHeads to do it.

You won't know if you need it until you buy it and use it for a bit...try her out!

Get one, put it in your vehicle. That way, if you ever need to completely destroy it to get out, you have the tool for the job!

Yep,that thread sold it for me too :) If you ask me, BK-2 may be a little heavy, but its very universal. It can demolish the car , but in other hand,it can be sharpened to scary sharp and make feather sticks, open packets, cut food, etc.
If I can carry only one knife,it would be BK-2 ,no questions about that.

I can't say that the 2 is my favorite, I'm not sure which one it, but it is an incredible tool. After some mods and some edge re profiling it is better for slicing and such.

Oh yeah,
She was my first

You either see its charms and utility, or you do not. No one can talk you into buying one. I have many cutting tools and to this day I still have a fondness (and use) for the 2.

I do have a "fondness" for the BK-2 too. That doesn't mean that I use it much. But then, I don't use any fixed blade much. I am trying to correct that. You pick the thing up and, well, I think to myself... what a hawg in a good way! I don't have the slightest regret with buying one. I like the factory handles and feel they work very well with the knife. I agee with upnorth about whether or not you see its charms and practicality, or have a need for it's utility in terms of acquiring one. In essence, it's up to you (the buyer as usual), but it is a good knife especially for the price range. It is a knife that many people might grab if they are limited to a single knife for an extended period of time in the woods where the tasks are unknown.

Making the decision of whether to get the BK2 or not just got a little harder. The amazon price of the BK2 went back up from $64 to $70. And at the same time the price on the BK9 went down from $80 to $64.
