Can someone convince me on the Tuff?

I typically don't run across too many tasks where a 3" blade won't do what a 4" blade will. That aside, with the Tuff I feel that what it loses in cutting edge length it more that makes up for with ergos, balance and control. The choil and angle of the blade make the choked up grip on the Tuff feel amazing in my hands, just a great position for cutting things. And as Rev has already pointed out, CPM-3V is a heck of a steel for a hard use knife. The Tuff is an awesome knife for me but your results may vary. I'll be interested to see how you feel about it once you get it in your hands.

Reading this post made me go grab my Tuff and throw it on the W/E. I profiled it to 20* per side and started cutting with it. The Tuff has fantastic ergonomics. The blade to handle ratio is way off, the angle of the blade is way off, the knife feels funny if you don't choke up on it and put your finger on/in the choil. Everything "wrong" with this knife makes it work!! It feels awesome in the hand. The combination of the ergos and the 3V steel make this a hard user extraordinaire!!!

Everything that looks wrong about it is what makes it right!

So, I got the Tuff a couple of days ago.

It's well built and absolutely solid. I like the handle shape that allows for versatile hand holds, and the angle to the blade. I like the balance. But I still find the choil way more than needed, even with gloves. If the area from the pivot forwards were designed like the Manix XL, it would make room for another 0.5" of cutting edge (which to my mind would make a lot of difference), and the choked up grip would also be a lot more comfortable (at least for my admittedly fairly narrow fingers).

I will probably keep it, considering the price I got it at, but it will probably alway remain for me an almost-great knife.

Thanks for the input, Brummie.

Let us know how you like the 3v after some use. I'm interested in picking up a blade in that steel soon.
