I don't mean to go full retard on you guys but I've been collecting knives for a whole two weeks. I'm sitting here trying to decide if I want to order a Chris Reeve Sebenza and I decided to check out what else is in that range or a bit more and I came across the Shirogorov Neon. Is there something that makes this knife superior to a Reeve? I have noticed it's much harder to find, the internet appears to be completely sold out. There's a ton in the classifieds, all appear to be spoken for or gone. I've seen people call it a "Neon", "Neon Lite" & "Neon Ultra Lite". Are these different models or all the same knife? What's with some having the logo on the pivot and others just the slit?

Good question mate, I'm in the same boat as you! There is also different levels of quality/ customness which I'm yet to get my head around.

Yes, the internet is sold out.

Vladimir can get you one, he emailed me yesterday. I am deciding between a neon lite and a larger model.
I want to see what all the hubbub is about.

Russ

2 weeks and looking that deep? Just jump on in with both feet. More people should!

But you won't appreciate a shiro without first owning more common knives.

Like reeves, shiro machining and tolerances are amazing. Maybe even more so. Best flippers on the market. Fit and finish is nearly perfect.

They are harder to find because they are imported from Russia indirectly via people like Vladimirk and russinwoodstock. Those guys have to find them over there then sell and ship them over.

The three you listed are thee different versions of the neon. I haven't researched it, so I can't tell you the differences, but I think one is a custom shop product.

I'm one month in and have 6 Shiro's (21 flippers overall) haha...research them or just get one.

There's been quite a few Neons hitting the Exchange here over the last few weeks. I own one Shiro, an old Tabargan, and although its a fine knife, I don't think they're worth what they sell for. Take a look at Custom Knife Factory for a Russian flavor with a lot less hit to the wallet. Cheburkov look like good knives too. Direct from China, you can get similar blades from Reate, WE, Rike and Stedemon all for several hundred less.

Hopefully, someday, the Shiros will have more of a regular supply chain to the US and prices will come down. Until then they carry an artificially inflated price.

Now, back to the matter of the Sebenza...at some point, you will buy one to find out if you're a CRK person or not. You might start there. If it doesn't work for you, you can always sell it quickly for a very minor loss.

Good luck on your full retard knife buying! I realize now that I've been full retard for many, many years ;).

👍😂...

Like you're 5...

"Put that down! It's very expensive."

I wouldn't call the Neon "better" than a Sebenza. They're two very different animals. I think though, that the major price difference comes from availability mostly.

Sebenzas are readily available whereas the Internet is sold out of Shiros for the most part.

I own 7 shiro's 5 of them are custom Division's. I have two neons both CD's. They are amazing knifes and I could not be happier. If you want to jump right in good for you but if it was me I would prob start with the Reeve first.
The shiro's with the Bear logo on the blade are custom division which if you look closer the bear actually shows CD. The ones without are the productions.

Here is my neon and it is one of my fav carry knives. Amazing flipper second to none. It's a custom division. Good luck finding any right now they are very hard to find. Then you have the production neon like this.

IMHO I think the CD's and production neons are worlds apart. Fit and finish are very different. Both amazing though. Very big price difference around 650.00 for the production and around 2-2500 for the CD's.

And here is a full custom these are very very hard to find and the one I did finally find the guy wanted 4600.00. There prices are all different when it comes to the full customs. And you can usually tell they are a full custom by the pacman looking screws and they are always tricked out in some way I.E. mokuti, Damascus and so on.

Post Script,
I am working so don't have time to go into more detail about the three different types of shiro's:Full custom's,Custom Division's, and production but would be happy to answer as best I could if you want to PM me.

My two 5 year olds at home are already extremely well acquainted with the concept of wanting something really, really, REALLY badly without giving any thought to the cost, so actually probably not a lot of explanation would be needed.

Explaining a Shiro to their mother, though? Ugh . . .

First of all in my opinion, and this is only my opinion (I know I will get hated on) Chris Reeves knives are great knives for what they are ie: fit and finish, however, I think the Shirogorov Neon is a much better knife. If this counts for anything, I've owned a Sebenza and Mnandi and sold both of them. I will NEVER part with my Neon Lite!!! It is the smoothest action, best fit and finish knife I have ever owned. It's amazing! As far as the models go, Neon is the standard, Neon Lite is the same as standard but with reduced weight in S90V and M390 steels, and the Neon Ultra lite is a Neon Lite with no backspacer (standoffs), a one-sided lanyard hole, more reduced weight, and S30V steel. If you can find and afford the Neon, Neon Lite, or Ultra Lite don't hesitate! There are a few for sale on BF now. Hope this helps...

Btw, the logo on the pivot screw is just a blue sticker to prevent marring on the pivot screw.

Send Vladimir_k a message on BladeForums. He can/will get one for you at a decent price. He's a great guy and will take very good care of you. Check his feedback here on BF.

Don't feel bad about your buying habits lol. In the last 3 months, I've acquired at least 10 knives and spent a whopping $8k. Maybe I'm the real retard haha. After my first Shirogorov purchase (F95 Nudist) in August 2016, I loved it so much I bought five more since then. F95T Custom Division, 111 Carbon Fiber, Neon Lite, F3 Python, and Jeans Custom Division. I'm getting ready to buy a Russian Dr. Death next month. If I could buy them direct from Shirogorov, I'd probably be divorced and homeless lol.
