Can someone explain Shirogorov to me like I'm 5

Lol...

OP, if you're really this early in your knife obsession I'd personally not recommend immediately going to the deep end.

Start with some production pieces. Benchmade, Spyderco, Zt, etc.

I did all that in my first week :)

Picked up a Benchmade CLA, liked it. Picked up a ZT 0562CF, fantastic. Received a Todd Begg Steelcraft in the mail today, excited to mix that into my daily carry. On order and due in this week is a Microtech Combat Troodon, Guardian Tactical Helix Nano and a Rick Hinderer XM-18. A Shiro seems like the next logical step.

I don't know what you guys have to complain about, this knife stuff is way cheaper than custom 1911's.

I think shiros have better fit, finish and action that Chris reeves knives. Have had multiple of both. Just one mans opinion

Have Large Regular and Shiro Hati.Love them both to death. They are both amazing knives and I would not part with them ever.If I had to choose one, well that would be Large Regular Sebenza.Cheers.

Wow, you are jumping right into this. The Neon is my grail, but I have no plans of getting one, even if I had the money.

I don't recommend buying a Shirogorov. They'll pretty much ruin all other knives for you.

But seriously, Shirogorovs are fantastic. I recently paid just over $1000 for a Shirogorov F95. It's by far the most I've paid for a knife in my nearly 5 years of serious collecting. I've spent $500-1000 on knives and felt like they weren't worth what I paid, but that's not the case with my most recent Shiro. The tolerances and quality are phenomenal and I simply love the aesthetic of all their knives. The only problem with Shirogorovs is that you'll inevitably want another.

Edit:

Just FYI, there is an official Shirogorov forum with a wealth of information. Unfortunately it isn't located here on BladeForums.

CJ I want that blue twill F3 😱

I've seen people call it a "Neon", "Neon Lite" & "Neon Ultra Lite". Are these different models or all the same knife?

The Neon came in s90v and m390 and as a backspacer. The Neon ultra light is s30v and has standoffs.

Well... Anyone who knows me knows that I wholeheartedly recommend Chris Reeve. Best value for your dollar in the knife world hands down IMO.

What do you guys think of their execution of the AXIS lock? Does it work well? I doubt I will ever be able to hold one first and will just have to get one to see.

My issue is that AXIS locks feel different depending on the model. The 710 has a very short pull and you have to pull it almost the limit of the throw before the blade unlocks. On other models there is more travel the lock can move and after the blade unlocks there is still a good amount of throw the lock can come back. This just feels better IMO and makes the lock easier and more fun to use. A little worried about the Shiro because it doesn't look like there is much room for the lock to travel. I won't use my 710 because of this even though I like the knife and love the AXIS lock. Usually.

Thanks for any insight because a Shiro has been on my want list for years. And they were even harder to find back then and it appears they are much easier to find these days in comparison.

I would be interested in knowing this as well.

hey everyone, i'm going to try and revive this thread a bit with a noobish question: what does the 'r' indicate as a suffix in their model numbers?

What can I say. Contrary to many, I think this is exactly how one should go with a hobby if finance permits. Life is too short to spend years trying out Benchmade, ZT, Spyderco and their likes before escalating to Hinderer, CRK, and Shiro.:D

Like you're 5?
OK.
"They are nice knives, but at 5 years old, you are too young to have one, and they cost a lot more than daddy will pay for a knife, anyway."
