That depends. What type of etching are you referring to? Etching a logo or etching a blade to reveal a damascus pattern/hamon/etc?

Here ya go then! Take a look at the finishing section of my website for some information on damascus finishing.

The procedure for exposing a hamon is similar, but you only etch very quickly for 10-15 seconds at a time. Clean and finish polish with Flitz and you should be on the way. I'm sure guys will chime in with more information about polishing hamon. That's a topic that's frankly well beyond my current level of patience and ability
