Can someone give me a rundown on the various kershaw steels?

I have to say I own some very fine knives but I keep coming back to my reverse tanto leek in 13c26. I guess I could get much better performance from my ZDP-189 or s110v Shallots. I don't use them for two main reasons. First, they are just too cool to use, for me, and until I get enough money to get a second example of each, I won't be using either. Second, in my circle, the blade shape on length are usually viewed at as being too aggressive.

So, currently, for me, the 13c26 leek gets the most practice use and therefore enjoyment. I am also finding it takes a finer edge than 154cm. This is not to say that its edge retention is as good as 154cm but, I guess, I enjoy 13c26 more for this property.

A lot has changed since this thread started!

I can't make much of a comparison on the 110V, as all I've done with it is to get whittle hair sharp. Haven't played with the S60V that much either. Hopefully I will be able to when Mr. Krein does his thing to it. I'm not going to start cutting stuff with my 440V/S60V Boas.

Best to less best (in my opinion, edge retention):
ZDP
CPM D-2
SG2
S30V,
154CM
VG-10, 14C28N tie
13C26

What am I missing from the Kershaw lineup?

Not sure if fallkniven uses it or has used it in the past but I somehow associate it with them.

Brad, I'm going to take your list and tweak it to a different tune if you dont mind. I do disagree with one thing though. I think VG-10 should be up there past 154CM, but thats me. Anyway

Best to worst, edge it can take.
VG-10/SG2 *Krein is all i can say for this. Not even my SG2 JYD2 is as sharp as that Lahar outta Krein. Gosh, what s60v will be like after he gets through with it*
CPM D2
ZDP-189 *only cause i have yet to see just what that stuff can do
S30V
154CM
14c28n
13c26

thats my opinion from use of the knives with those steels. take it as you will.

ATS-34 (Talon, Starkey Ridge) Should the same as 154cm.
AUS8A (Echo, Splinter, Northside, Sapphire)
Damascus (Leek, Chive, Scallion, Shallot, Skyline)
440A
Where would you rank these? Also CPM3V , I know where everyone should place 420j2.

Comparing blade steels depends greatly upon what kind of work you intend to do, the material(s) to be cut, and how the edge is to be profiled and sharpened. In my personal testing both 13C26 and 14C28N easily outperform S30V and VG-10 when it comes to taking and holding a very fine edge at more acute angles, and when cutting less abrasive materials. The Sandviks are also substantially tougher. These characteristics, IMO, make 13C26 and 14C28N better choices for the kind of general utility uses many of us encounter.

I find ATS-34 from Kershaw to outperform 154CM. It's harder for sure, and not nearly as easy to sharpen.

I'm a big ATS-34 fan, and I like 154CM as well. I personally put 154CM and VG-10 in a dead tie for performance when factoring edge holding, sharpness, and ease of sharpening. I've had some extremely impressive 154CM blades, and traded/sold/given away most of them.

Happy to have some again in the ZT0200. Haven't gone sharpening crazy on it..yet...

Kreined 440V (S60V) is nice. I had the Random Task done and it has help up very well. Nary a roll or chip, but, I do have to admit that I haven't used it really hard.
